Water pump periodically cycling--290 Amberjack

We launched our 2008 290 Amberjack over the weekend. Everything worked perfectly, with the possible exception of the fresh water pump periodically cycling on for a few seconds, and then shutting off. This was of course when no water faucet was turned on.

The delivery captain said that I would hear this noise periodically because of "air in the system" that would take a while to purge. It doesn't appear that there was any leakage anywhere (which is what I was\am worried about), and the water level in the tank stayed the same after 3-4 hours of the fresh water pump periodically turning on for a few seconds, about every 4 minutes.

I recall having the same phenomenon with my 2003 380 Sundancer. I did drain the water tank fully after each cruise (we lived out of town and only used it 3-4 times a year, which is why it was sold).

Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated.

Regarding the boat, I could not be happier. It is very solid and well-built, with enough creature comforts to please the family. For someone looking for a lake\coastal trailerable aquatic SUV (fishing, diving, water skiing and wake boarding, and cruising), with reasonable mileage, excellent range (250 gallon tanks) and good stable rough water handling, and wants to stay in the Sea Ray family, it is hard to beat this boat. I have had a 270, two 330s, the 380, and now this boat. For me, it is the right boat at the right time.

I assume you bought the boat new? You have a leak. Make them find it and fix it. My water pumps never come on unless someone is using the water. I did have them cycle every few minutes one time and it turned out to be a mixing valve leaking behind the wall in a shower.

I agree with Gary. You have a leak. You could turn on all the faucets in the system and have all the air out in 2 minutes.

Do any of your faucets drip? Both of my faucets have a drip about once an hour. My pump will cycle after several hours for a split second. The drip isn't big enough to warrant a tear down yet.

Is the water tank nearly empty? When my water tank gets really low it causes the pump to cycle, sometimes continuously. When I add even just a little water it solves the problem.

You have a leak. Double check the valve on the hot water that it is closed completely.

If you have an ice maker this will turn your pump on about every 40 minutes for a couple seconds, check those connections and also the anchor wash down if you have either.

I have had a couple of leaks when I had my 320 Sundancer. It was the fresh water wash down at the swim platform and another one on the valve behind it that the dock water hooks up to.
