West Marine was busy... What gives?

I myself am done with west marine. I got the 20% coupon in the mail a few weeks ago so I went to get oil and filters since it was time to change it. They only had 4 gal and I needed 5 so I stopped by BW when I left WM. BW's normal price for Merc synthetic blend was about a dollar cheaper than west's 20% off. What an effin rip-off:smt013 I called and asked them for a price match with BW then 20% off of that, not a chance.

I constantly find the prices at west to be 5-10% higher than BW which sucks since they have a better in stock selection and are a closer drive from my boat. All of the normal cleaners I use such as strataglass cleaner is about 5 bucks cheaper for the same thing. Stabil for ethanol, 5 bucks cheaper. Some items I have seen as much as 25-30% higher. No more west marine for me.

I went to West Marine on Black Friday expecting to clean up on deals. There were three people in the store....me and two sales people. I asked for a holiday flyer, and I was directed to a table that was 3' x 4' with ALL of the specials that they had on sale. There were about six things!! Needless to say, I left empty handed.

Yeah, West Marine is totally hit or miss concerning pricing. Most items are usually priced around 15% - 20% greater than most other stores. Consequently, I received a Magma Kettle 2 grill as a gift recently. Who had the lowest price? West Marine, go figure?

West Marine reminds me of Pep Boys. I refuse to shop at Pep Boys. They don't have real parts people, they have people who look stuff up on computers. It's ashame their computers have a tremendous amount of errors for vehicle applications not to mention their parts people have very little knowledge for cross referencing, etc.

I just needed the tide to be a BIT higher and I'd unwrap her, stick the plug in and go for a spin!

Christmas.....

Merry Christmas to all and GOD bless America!!!! I hope you all are safe and well during this Christmas season, and are prosperous for 2009.

My wife did shop at West Marine for my present this year, so we have been doing our part to keep our local store open. I hope they stick around, as I would really be depressed if I could go and browse the store on a daily basis.

:smt001 To agnostic people, it is xmas.

A buddy of mine turned me on to Tractor Supply Co. for best prices around here on pink RV anti-freeze; they had plenty in stock. While there I picked up a bottle of Stabil as well.

Exactly why I go to NAPA. The same guys have been at the one I go to for 15+ years.

We got lucky on the pink stuff. 20% off, plus 12% off plus a $1 per bottle rebate at West Marine. I bought 2 cases of the stuff.

Can't you just call it "festivus for the rest of us", then? After all, the reason for the holiday is to celebrate the birth of Christ. Not to get all biblical and such.....

For you, yes, I will call it Festivus on the boards for now on. :smt001

I do agree with the WM general suckitude stance for the most part. They never have any thing in stock around here. However, checking online, a deck double seat that I wanted was $30 cheaper before the 25% coupon and with their $9.95 flat shipping fee compared to BW $60 fee it was a deal.

WM will honor internet prices if you bring the ad in (print it). At least the one here does.

The did that for me when I found my air condx raw water pump at Boater's World for $30 cheaper than they were selling it for.

I waited for WM to have their 20% off sale, which I think is the same time frame you mentioned.

I bought a Dock Box $150 off of their regular price. No mob at the store though..kinda quiet..

It looks like I didn't word my post very well..Neither store had the item in stock. WM was actually cheaper (for once) than BW online, then I used the 25% coupon on top of that. Additionaly WM had flat rate shipping which saved quite a bit over BW.
