Yea those were super tight on mine also. You need to use an impact driver on those retaining screws. The type that you hit with a hammer to loosen.
A hint on stripped phillips screws - you can drive in a star bit and get the screw out with an impact gun.

Now ya tell me!! I used a chisel on the edge to break em loose. Immediate problem solved. Cursing continues.

The biggest problem is that Westerbeke paint. Chips off in very small little flakes. Using vacuum and covering things best I can.

Hope im not making things worse.

Oh yea don't let any contam. get in there - you'll rue the day. Put some caplugs on them and wire brush/flush the area clean.

#@$#*

Wrong part. Man I can't win today.

Grrr...

Original looks to be basic Viton or similar.

Hard brittle and taken a set. I’d like to spec a more readily available o-ring.

Hi Dave - First

Viton would be the correct material. NAPA may just be a place to get them.
I’m going to get some “official” versions first. I unfortunately don’t know the durometer or metric/SAE, so I’d be guessing. I only want to have to do this once.

I might break out the Parker design book and take a look once I have some in hand. Sure would be nice to be able to get some from an industrial supply house.

Westerbeke tech support sucks, as do their distributors for anything beyond basic parts orders. If I ever upgrade this generator, it going to be a Northen Lights.

Isn't that engine a Mitsubishi S3L2? Common in little trucks and tractors.

That stupid Westerbeke red paint is a pain in the butt, it flakes off easily and gets everywhere! Sorry you are having so many issues with it, I was afraid of those set screws being a pain, they look the same as mine and would not budge easily. Glad I didn't have to loosen them, I was able to remove the injectors without having to touch them.

Good luck Dave!

I just removed the injector tubing's loosened at the injector and removed from the pump. Took no time at all to replace the o-rings once I had them. Too a couple of weeks to get them however.

Look at the block casting number it should say "S3L" common Mitsubishi.
This is an L3E. Its cast into the block along with .0952l I've got the right manual and part #'s. Turns out the disty had the wrong parts in the bin. Correct orings on the way (hopefully).

I think once o'rings are back in , I'm going to flush some diesel up through the injector line before I reconnect to the injectors. I'm hoping the lift pump will be able to do that, but may need to turn the gen over and let fuel run into a can. I'm most worried about the injector orifice. That would clog quite easily.

Thanks!!

Tom suggested a hammer type impact wrench, but I didn't have the vertical clearance overhead to do that with the generator in the boat (I'm assuming he pulled his, or at least the pump).

They really were not that hard to remove using the edge of a chisel, and they just need to be replaced. I'm trying to run down what they are but I suspect a M3 or M4 fine thread. If I can find some SS version, I'll just go back with that.

Retention screws are M5 x 0.8 x 8mm. Shortest I could find locally is 10mm allen head in SS, so I'll add a spring washer and hope they don't bottom out
