Second year in a row I get problems with my Y-Pipes, below is the picture of what pretty much happens to them. Mechanics replaced both Y-pipes last year with same problem that looks like below (I paid sh*tload of money to replace both Y-Pipes, as engines had to be pulled out). This year week after putting boat in the water same problem with port Y-pipe happened again. What can be the cause of this corrosion/holes in the Y-Pipe? Obviously mechanics can't make a good job preventing this from happening since this is happening second year in a row.

Saltwater?

Forgive me, I was looking at the wrong thing.

Here is a better picture:

Can this be welded? Or should I replace the whole pipe?

Look for dissimilar metal touching the Y pipe. I got a hole in mine after years of use and like you, in just one spot. It appears a bolt fell and wedged against the Y pipe and caused corrosion. No way running in salt water could do this in one year. Could also be something electrical, electrolysis. Stray current in the water in your slip. The clue is that corrosion is highly concentrated to one spot (like mine was) and the rest of it looks fine. Also check for absence of some grounding wires in this area perhaps to the steering. They are like 1/8" cable, no insulation.
