Why so many words ?…. You had me at kill someone… then I looked downFor centuries, if you wanted to kill someone, you had to do it up close and brutally. Then gunpowder from China gave us the ability to fire projectiles at enemies from a distance. It insulated us and changed the concept of war for good. Soldiers could now kill their enemy without seeing the results at close range.
Nuclear weapons created the second revolution in warfare. While few nuclear weapons have been put to use, their invention taught us that we could create very large weapons, launch them from the other side of the planet and kill thousands of people on a battlefield, all at once. War hasn't been the same since then.
But it is the third revolution in warfare – autonomous weapons that can think for themselves and effectively target enemies on traditional or urban battlefields without human intervention, that we should be worried about. There is evidence that these weapons currently exist and there is no turning back. (Check out Boston Dynamics but you will never see the "state of the art.")
"Autonomous weapons are ideal for tasks such as assassinations, destabilizing nations, subduing populations and selectively killing a particular ethnic group," Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking and several other notables wrote in an open letter back in July 2015. "Starting a military AI arms race is a very bad idea, and should be prevented by a ban on all offensive, autonomous weapons that operate beyond meaningful human control."
World leaders have, for 7 years now, unanimously ignored the foremost scientists on the imminent threat AI poses to our very existence. This is typical, as they've either ignored them (or moved very slowly) on other existential future threats like climate change or nuclear proliferation.
But AI is so much different. When a super-intelligent AI machine (A.S.I.) supercedes all human capabilities (Musk says that could be within 3 or 4 years), it will ultimately decide that carbon life forms are useless and an obvious target in any threatening scenario. Many experts expect that A.S.I. is the likely and logical, ultimate "evolution" of humanity, even as we physically perish. At that point, A.S.I. won't care what we or our world leaders thought about anything.
You are a smart guy and this A.S.I. is extremely important stuff. Why so many words ?…. You had me at kill someone… then looked down

So you think you have one, eh?The sad thing with Mitch is that he cannot understand or appreciate any mind better than his own...

I’m not claiming we will see Terminator or Matrix in our lifetimes or my children's lifetimes.
What I see is a great acceptance of the convenience of technology in our lives, especially in my kids (both teens).
They see no issue with the Alexa’s and all that. They see no problem with the gps enabled phones, On-Star and other vehicle tracking software, pure cash-less economy, auto insurance companies making you plug little watchful eyes into your car to rat you out if you roll through a stop sign, and, ultimately, I believe, a small chip embedded in your skin so you won’t need to carry a damn credit card to make a purchase.
I tell them if someone you trust can build and program it, then someone else can break into it and re-program it.
I can only do my little acts of defiance as our individual freedoms get digitized away. No Alexa, no “cloud” on my phone, no Friends and Family tracking, no lower cost car insurance with the tracker, no On Star, I try to use cash as much as practical if I swing into a stop-n-rob to get a snickers, and on and on.
It means nothing in the grand scheme, but I feel like I resisted a little at least.
In a previous post I said "the smartest guys on our planet" are very concerned with A.S.I. and then, anticipating you, I said " and that ain't us."Wrong again @Juliery. Look at 4th gen and 5th gen warfare... aka - covid. Monkey pox. Etc.

It's beyond some of you but consider that humans have evolved with viruses for many thousands of years. Our intelligence enabled us to survive all natural threats until now. We now have no ability to respond effectively to the very unnatural threat posed by A.S.I.
My grandparents home-steaded the Canadian prairie very early in the 20th century. They came with almost nothing and at first lived as you propose. However, they thrived and prospered only because of neighborly cooperation.Where will everyone be when the plug is pulled? I know I will be able to live without electricity. I will find clean water. I will work my ass off all summer to survive winter. My worry will be the ones who want to take from me after I worked for it. Too much dependence on technology and not enough critical thinking ability.
You do not understand Monkey Pox - what a shocker!AI is a very large threat. We don't need AI to be defeated though. ..4th and 5th gen warfare will do that before AI has a chance....and in comes Moneypox right on queue...
I'm sure @Juliery and many others will be first in line to get the Vax that will save them...
Get your masks ready boys...

Lots of people think they can do it, problem is they don't think enough. For entertainment I used to read on some 'bug out' and 'shtf' forums, pretty funny stuff. Lots from urban areas were going to places like the UP of MI. Most the dumbasses will die once winter comes. A few might survive a bit longer if they're willing to gnaw on their dead buddies.Where will everyone be when the plug is pulled? I know I will be able to live without electricity. You do not understand Monkey Pox - what a shocker!
Monkeypox first appeared in Africa in 1970. It can be spread by animals, including rodents. It is a minor threat to healthy people and responds well to legacy smallpox vaccines. It is not transmitted through the airborne vector. (so masks unnecessary)
Again Cadet (when will you graduate?), your lack of cognitive ability and rational thought processing is flagrantly demonstrated.
- Monkeypox is transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person or animal, or with material contaminated with the virus.
- Similar to AIDS transmission vectors, Monkeypox virus is transmitted from one person to another by close contact with lesions, body fluids, respiratory droplets and contaminated materials such as clothing and bedding.
You meander, elusive and pointless. Please read what I posted. You're proving my point with your post...
Haha - got it, Creekwood. It finally warmed up a bit. Coldest, stormiest Spring ever on the West Coast. Boating today, thankfully. Mitch, Mike and F.C. will be pleased with that news.Shut up and boat.
You meander, elusive and pointless.
No Vax this time. Only because I was vaccinated against smallpox 65 years ago.
