I have narrowed my purchase down to 2

One with twin 4.3 and the other with twin 5.0

Any experiance on the two choices

How about telling us what boat you are talking about.

Personally, I would upgrade to 7.0 It's much smoother and has many more options like the snap screen, that's some cool stuff right there. You were talking about Windows, right?

I think Win 7 is a worthwhile upgrade. Glad I held out and didn't ever get a vista machine.

As an aside. . .I have never heard a complaint from a boater along the lines of "My boat has too much power".

He's got another post going referencing the same...

"Hello & quick question
Hello and qucik question,
currently have a single 7.4 270 but am pursuing a 05 280
I have narrowed it down to 2 choices and pretty much the same boat except : one has twins 4.3 and the other 5.0
Any experience on one vs the other."

So he's pondering the jump to a twin screw. Maneuverability, balance vs drag, storage and cost.... 6cly engine vs 8cyl engine.

OP: how bout deleting one of your posts and focus.

I drove a 290 with twin 4.3's and thought it had adequate power. There were 4 of us aboard and the tanks were empty. I may not have felt that way if it had full tanks and a the rest of our stuff on board. Statistically the 5.0's have less trouble according to GM in auto applications. They build in a percent of failure for all of their engines and the 5.0 was WAY better than they guessed. I'd opt for the additional horsepower. The fuel use won't matter because it's a boat! If you are worried about miles per gallon, then I'd suggest bicycling instead!

Assuming we are talking about a Sea Ray, list all their boats that have a choice between twin 5.0L and 4.3L. I can think of 2, the 280 and 290. I don't feel that is necessary information in order to provide an answer. Are there 2 hulls with radically different design and displacement that would take these 2 engines? I don't believe so.

To find the answer, use the search function. This has been discussed in great detail, including my feedback. I could give you my $0.02, but that is all it would be worth. Talk to 50 people and you will have a dollar's worth of input on this subject.

Thank you all for you Kind insight. Did not realize it was a captial offense to post the question in seperate spots.

Thought maybe I would catch different owners in seperate forums. Next time I will drag a sign throughout the streets of Detroit, I think the reception would be as good.

Some of you need to sell your Searay and purchase a Tiara, you will fit in just fine with that crowd !

Correct, I take it you are still running windows 95. Would fit well with your boat

The guys on here are just kidding with you. :smt001.
They're having boating withdraws and are a little grumpy. :smt043
I'd go with the 5.0's

pgplay18 . Welcome to CSR. :smt001

I think one thing most people will agree with is you cannot have too much power on a boat. Both engines are excellent and the 280 is fantastic so which can you get the best deal on?

Cabin Fever for sure. We’ve been talkin boats and drinkin all winter. Or drinkin and talkin boats all summer. Anyways, we haven’t had much sun.

Go with the 5.0's for sure. Nothing like havin a little reserve hp on board for when the inlaws show up.

Welcome to CSR.

Beerman, Actually really wanted to go with a 290 or a 32 but my current location in the marina will not allow either. Great location and Great people so that is more important at this time. Would really like twins, as we travel a little farther from home port the security of having twins would be nice. Went over to Chicago last year and ran the lakeshore all the way around. Ran into a great deal on a 2003 280 in mint condition. Really like the boat and the ease of the canvas with the arch. This boat has twin 5.0. As I was dealing with him I found a person upgrading his 280 with the 4.3 also a 2003. He will sell the boat for the trade in value
Almost option for option except the engine. One tells me the power is not worth the fuel difference, the other indicates with a load of 8 the 5.0 is necessary

Thanks for the help
