On the ocean with a calm sea and no wind (unusual conditions around here), my 2000 240 5.0 BIII will top out around 40 mph (GPS) around 4500 rpm. Mine doesn't have a fuel flow meter, but I'm sure it's at least 10+ gal/hr. Since my boat is berthed 2 mi upstream on a tidal river where "No Wake"...
In aviation, probably as well as some other vocations, timing is important. I started my aviation career back in the early 70's, (could have been earlier if it weren't for Vietnam service), when the airlines simply weren't hiring. You took any flying job you could find such as flight...
As you found out in military aviation, it's a matter of timing: being at the right place and time. It also holds true for civilian flying. You're probably getting out as a Major or LTC, so the pay isn't so bad, you'll be getting retirement pay and you've said you're going back to Delta soon...
When I take out people for the first time on our boat I play Frankie Ford's "Sea Cruise" (1959) as we pull away from the dock. Seems to set their minds at ease.
The same with us. We spend a lot of time on our river where its regulated so that you can only make headway. As we do a lot of entertaining, the table is invaluable for serving of food & beverages; and it also serves as a holding point for our guests if we encounter an idiot who's left a wake.
I used to have a 220 DA with a similar porta-pottie arrangement. On mine, the "Y" valve was underneath the wash basin in the head. There should be a door beneath the sink and you may be able to see the plumbing. The other possible location may be in the engine compartment. That's where the...
Hit the horn button yesterday and the resulting sound was like a very weak goose being strangled! Replacing the horn looks pretty straight foward with access through the anchor locker.
The question is should I replace it with a O.E.M. Searay horn or should I be considering other devices...
Last year lightning hit the mast of a sailboat while in a slip in our marina. The end result was almost every boat in a 50-75' from that sailboat suffered severe damage to their electronics. Yes, lightning can be weird.
My 2000 240 DA came with a factory installed battery charger. This year I've opted for dock power, but wondered if I need to set my battery selector to a particular position in order to charge the batteries.
Reading previous threads on the subject, it seems SeaRay changes its wiring almost...
Guess I caused some confusion when I posted this thread. I had recently read several articles on galvanic corrosion. Some of these articles talked about "stray current" found is some marinas due to improper set up of shore power, shore power cables to boats dangling in the water, etc. I've...
Speaking of corrosion....
I have heard of attaching zinc "mermaids" to the dock to help deflect stray electrical currents. Being frugal, (actually cheap), I thought of putting my old zincs into a plastic onion bag (the ones that look like a net that onions are sold by at the store), and...
Question on CB's.
My boat's circuit breakers are located inside a pylon (for lack of a better term) that's located behind the pilot's seat. On some 240's, this is also where a deck sink is located, but mine doesn't have the sink option. Anyway, inside this storage compartment is where the...
Here's hoping gas prices stay low for the summer and we can do more cruising!
OTOH, from what I've been hearing on the news, oil prices are dropping even lower, yet since last week gas prices went up $.05--and nobody seems to know why??
