Re: Water Temp Problems
Depends on what thermo was put in it. Mine will run about 170* all day long and even running WOT and will only creep just over. I'd say the full range might be 170-175 on the extreme side.
Could it have had a 140* thermo put in it? It may be running pretty rich if...
I assume that's by speedo? Unless you got really lucky and the motor is making a lot more power.
A friend is a Nordic dealer so I have several friends with them, including a one with 28 Heat with a 525. They're slightly lighter than my 240 but obviously the hull is just a tad different :grin...
Since it's only got 100 hours, and since you panicked about the grease, I assume you haven't had it serviced? By now you need to have the drive pulled and alignment checked. If the motor is out of alignment you'll get some noise, then spin the coupler.
In the least, have the drive...
You quoted all my comments about the 270 in and replied about the the 260 which is confusing.
The only comment I made directly about the 260 was in regards to the 496 being available in it. And what I meant by wash is that it takes extra power to move more weight an in this case the 260...
I'm not sure I'd consider 1000+ pounds dry "a bit heavier" though. :D Just talking top speed, on a good day it's about about the same as a 240 with a 6.2 comparable loaded at best. I'm not sure I'd call any Sundeck, high performance though. They're incredible in big water and overall ride...
Does it rev through that RPM range at idle OK but bogs/sputters under a load? If so, I think you're on the right track looking at a fuel starvation problem. How's the water separator? If that's changed, or good, since it's rebuilt, I'd check fuel pressure.
I have to agree, while it's noble, it's not effective to step in and try to handle your friend issue for him, especially without him knowing or asking you to.
And as has been said, it's a Mercruiser problem that MM or your friend should be addressing with Mercruiser if MM can't figure it out...
I go over the top, then loop down out the bottom then in and on the hook/finger. That way it wraps around the side "posts" and locks on the hook pulling evenly on the eye as well as holds itself in place.
I'll have to see if I have anything new. Sadly, I've yet to get a good running/fly-by video. But I did finally do something with props and am no longer burning them up and while I'm about 500 RPM shy at WOT with them, they did improve cruise even more and I recorded the best WOT of 68.4 at the...
Well, sort of......but what they did it in also added about 500# plus about another 200# for their version of bigger power so it's a a wash.
I think I've still got them beat, but only because they have more sense than me.
Just had to "hello".
I haven't been around here in a while and can't believe this thread is still going. Cool, and good to see (sort of) some of the same old familiar faces. :smt038
It's not really the HP that is the benefit to the bigger displacement 6.2, it's the torque. We easily get caught up in HP when torque most important in a heavy boat that's that doens't have a performance hull. We need the grunt to move these things.
Well dang, all this time and I've never thought about looking at that. :smt043 I had thought about a strap/snap but it's not an issue except in pretty rare cases and of course, when no one is sitting on it.
Thanks for the tip, I'll look at it this weekend.
For those still having hatch covers lifting when towing, does it not have a latch of some sort? Mine does not but thought at some point they put them on.
In 9 years now, mine has never lifted, whether towing or running WOT, even in rough water. The port lounge cushion is another story...
Hope no one gets miffed about the digging up of this old thread but.......

Re: Name on Transom ?
I hope that Marine Max includes, installation after a full wet sand, polish and detail with that $250.
It's raining but I have mine here at the house (brought it back form Austin yesterday) so I'll go measure what size I used. I think it was 3 or 3.5". EDIT: Dang...
They did in 2000 and real early 2001. 7.4 MPI. I used to have one. I do still have the intake plenum, in the attic.
And, it's still got a big block.
