These photos will just make you sick. This disaster unfolded last week outside New Buffalo, MI. The information that I have is that this fairly new 52' Sea Ray Sundancer was leaving New Buffalo last week in 5-7 ft seas. It somehow became disabled just outside the breakwater. I know what I was...
Does anyone know lowest air draft that can be obtained with a 420 DB? I've looked everywhere, and even Sea Ray's specs don't show it. I'm trying to determine if it will fit under the 19' fixed bridge on the Great Loop at Chicago. I'm assuming things like the radar array and sat antenna may...
Has anyone had any experience removing their cabin door? Specifically, my door is sliding very stiffly, and it feels like there may be some damage to the upper track. There are the obvious 4 screws to remove on the hatch above that upper track, but what happens after that? You can't see...
Thank you everyone for this great detailed information! I really appreciate it!
Gimme Time, how is the 420 AC working out for you as a Loop boat? We are also considering trawlers, but really like the ability to cruise at higher speeds. Owning a DA now, we are not sure how well we will adjust...
Hello all! We have been looking at the 420 AC. I have read all I can find on the subject, and find that cruising speed mpg estimates are anywhere from 0.75 to just shy of 1 mpg. Can anyone weigh in on an estimated mpg at hull/displacement or trawler speeds, maybe 8 mph? Thanks!
I will second a vote for DuSable! Only marina within walking distance of all of the downtown attractions - Navy Pier, Michigan Ave, etc. 31st, while nice, is WAY out by itself. You will need a taxi to go anywhere.
Here I am 3 1/2 hrs away from the boat, and I realize I forgot to measure the hole size to replace the cockpit speakers in my 340 this last weekend! Stupid me! I'd like to get started on this so I have them on hand for the next trip up in a couple weeks. Anybody know off hand or able to...
I've read both The Millionaire Next Door, and The Millionaire Mind - multiple times for both. Some of my favorite books. If for no other reason than validation of what I'm already doing, as well as learning something along the way. I think some of you are missing the point. What Thomas...
Welcome to the forum! What slip are your parents in? We're at 631 in Washington Park. Scott Ferguson is there most weekends too. I'll let him give his slip #. Monaco Mike, what slip are you in? Didn't know you were up there! We drive almost 4 hrs one way, but it's the best Midwest boating...
Just my $0.02 here, but according to what I've read, the Mississippi below the Ohio is very industrial, and gasoline as a fuel can be iffy to find. You might consider doing what the majority of those who travel the Great Loop do, which is head up the Ohio a short distance, and then head down...
Zahniser's in Solomons can't be beat. Their Dry Dock restaurant was fantastic when we stayed. Nice pool. If you ever have time for a longer trip don't miss St Michaels and Annapolis!
For what it's worth, I found a cheaper source for Black Streak remover that I thought I would pass along. Instead of $12, $15, maybe $18 at your local marine store, I found the same stuff at the local farm store, in our case Rural King, IN THE RV SECTION, at $6.99/bottle! Other RV or farm...
I think Gene (RubberDuckeeToo) and Jason nailed it! I'm sure Frank's comments were spot on too - always are! Agree on the use of points for apparel. I don't even know where my card is, because I will never buy a new boat, due to my principles RE: depreciation. But, I am an enthusiastic...
My $0.02 - We just spent three days in Kenosha last week. We had only planned a day, but were so impressed we decided to stay longer! Southport Marina is fantastic - pool and 2 hot tubs! 3 excellent museums, including the only civil war museum in the midwest! Good dining choices - the best...
