Thank you. the drivability issue is:
Engines start fine.
Can drive around for an hour no problem.
While stern docking and going in an out of gear in short bursts, engine sputters and goes out. Ive changed out cool fuel filters, removed auxiliary filter and here is where I am now.
min thinking...
After removing the auxiliary 10 micron fuel/water filter as recommended by Mercruiser, I tested the fuel pressure at the rail.
How does this look to you guys? Is this normal? It stays at 40 at idle, and if I give it a little throttle, it dips to 37 and back up to 40. Also, there is no load on...
****UPDATE***
I emailed Mercruiser and asked them my question. Here is the direct response I just received. Looks like Ill be removing my additional inline filter:
The 496 engine with Gen III fuel cooler has a water separating cup within it and there is no need to add additional fuel water...
Yup!! That was exactly my thought. having too many filters might make the pump work harder than it has to.
I need to call Merc and see what they recommend for my engine.
Last year I bought a 2000 410 Sundancer that had the engines swapped out in 2005 with the Mercruiser 8.1S motors.
These motors have the Gen lll cool fuel filters but I noticed that I also have fuel/ water separators mounted on the bulkhead in the engine room.
Can anyone please tell me if you...
I was having issues with my boat dying at idle or when coming back in to the dock.
It would start fine, run well all day, but after coming off plane and putting the boat at ilde, they would start to sputter then just die. I couldn't get them to restart until after about 20-30 min.
I have been...
In the same "boat" as you're looking to buy.
We live on the water, so most of our boating is cocktail harbor cruising, going to friends houses and occasional runs up the river to stretch her legs.
I looked at diesels as well, but the cost difference just didn't make sense for me. We don't do a...
This is the first time Ive had this type of inverter.
There was no manual for it on the boat as well, which is why I am coming to here for help. (You've all been so helpful! Thank you!)
When you are away from the dock and NO gen running, how do you have this panel set?
When you are away from...
Thank you for the reply.
Can I ask you, what type of batteries do you have for port and Sb? are they deep cycle or starting? You and I have the same battery configuration. 2+2+1
Can owners please chime in on this??
My set up:
2006 Merc 8.1s twin engines. (Boat is a 2000 410 sundancer)
2 batteries for port and 2 for starboard and 1 for gen.
I also have 2 massive 6 volt Trojan batteries for the inverter.
can anyone please tell me what batteries are 12v house? Is it port...
Great advice.
So I checked my batteries today while the boat was ONLY at idle and with all lights and bilge fans going. (Shore power OFF)
Port: 12.3 volts
Starboard: 12.5
I turned off all the accessory lights and fans, and it read this:
Port:12.5
Starboard: 12.7
I think I may have a bad batch...
Here is a question for you electrical pros out there.
I have 2007 Mercruiser 8.1S Horizon engines in my 410.
Last weekend my voltage dropped on my port motor to 12.3 and the engine died.
I couldn't get it started using the emergency switch. I started up the generator and let it charge my...

Good morning!
I know this is a very old thread, but that is what I love about it. I can still find the answer I may be looking for.
By changing out the keypad, did that fix your problem? I am having the same issue as well currently on an original 2000 year model.
AC run great and I can lower...
THIS IS A GREAT QUESTION!!
When running the generator should we have our inverter in "CHARGE" mode, or should we put the inverter to "SEARCH" mode? Isnt the generator supposed to be supplying the 120v? If that is the case, then I would think the inverter should be taking advantage of the AC...
Wow! Thank you!
So, I think I should leave this one to a certified marine electrician.
How do you think I should go about working with this until I have someone correct the problem?
Should I flip the breakers at the plug in on the boat when I am using the inverter, and then turn them back on...
