Check the door seals-if they aren't tight the freezer may be melting slightly.
Another thought would be are you missing the tray that is usually beneath the freezer to catch the water when it goes through a defrost cycle?

I carefully used a single edge razor blade-I'm sure theres better ways. When I did it I just used GE Silicone from Lowes/HD. It has held up great but it does eventually get that dirty look.
Reason is side airbags kind of need a backer when deploying. Laminated glass is quieter and has better thermal protection too. Scary if your trying to bust one out in an emergency though.
