I would like to thank everyone for thier thoughts. Here's my story:
- installed a new alternator
- installed a new battery
No solution.
Called the marine mechanic.........who pretty quickly diagnosed - bad isolator - no juice coming out of it. New isiolator installed and all is good again...
I will look at them tomorrow. Not sure. both I recall being beween 12 to 14 volts. I think the battery may be good despite its being 2021 becz it keeps charging up and stating the enginbe nicely.
I do have the Harbor Freight version of a battery tester. Will be using it tomorrow - battery has to be fully charged and then disconneted to rest for 30 mins, so I couldn't do it today.
Still looking for a quickie alternator test. Saw a good suggestion here. Shouldn't an ohm meter on the...
Hoping you all have a thought or 2 on my what appears to me to be.......an altetnator issue:
2 inboards
Both start nicely
20 mins run time or so and the port motor dies...dependably time wise. No gasping or choking- just shuts down.
Using emergency start, the port engine will then turn over...
I have been struggling for a long time with "dripless" shaft seals..that drip. Lot of work done by a competent yard, still a problem. I know that a number of owners use the dripless and it works fine, but I havent had that kind of lucik. Aligned the engines, still a problem and I don't want...
I'm not challenging you, but I am not feeling that the previous owner would not have changed all those light fixtures, but who knows ?
Are the fixtures you suggested OEM Sea Ray ? If not, then what are the OEM Sea Ray fixtures ?
Thanks.
Flounder Poinder doesn't carry these light fixtures, so I am hoping someone here has discovered a source/manufacturer for these fixtures and bulbs (led preferably, but halogen also).
Great Lakes Skipper is looking to see if they have a source for the fixtures.
They seem to use a G4,2 pin...
In their infinite wisdom, SRay invented a cigarette-pack sized box, put all the circuitry into it for 5 bilge pumps plus 2 engine indicator lites and screwed that tidy package under the dash with the lites protruding slightly above the surface of the dash. To accomplish longevity, they filled...
My boat was equipped with the resin filled tray that screwed up to the dash and provided indicator lights for my five bilge pumps plus 2 engines. Great idea, but Sea Ray no longer makes this tray containing the circuitry and the lights which now leave owners like me....paddleless up a creek...
I would like to THANK EVERYONE here for their effort to diagnose my low rpm problem.
A quick recap of the issue:
- a year's work and a ton of money fishinsed the refurb of my motors
- sea trial only delivered 3400 rpm WOT, not the expected 4000 to 4400
- mechanic response:
that's a good...
............................I can humbly see that and I am so way grateful.
The maddening part is............boat engine balance WAS great. Push the throttles up and she would climb her 24k lbs onto a plane in a moderately quick way - little stress. 3100 would keep her there. Hoo...
