    Time for a repower. 1994 270.

I think last night was the last straw. Our problems began about 3 years ago. I had replaced the exhaust over the winter, and the boat ran fine a couple times then got water in the engine. Payed a mechanic about $2500 to rebuild the top end, took all summer, ran it only once or twice, the day I...

    How to check for Blow-By?

I'll spare you all the history, but here's what's going on: Engine had a valve job last summer. 550 hours. Immediately following valve job, at high speed/on plane, it appears that oil is leaking out from a gap in the intake manifold seal (RTV) at the back of the engine. According to the...

Rear main seal - amount of work?

I have a bad oil leak when the engine is running. The mechanic is supposed to look at it tomorrow. He said it could be a leaky oil sender, or a rear main seal, or ? I am confident, with my luck, it will be the rear main seal. I looked it up in the Seloc manual and for a 1994 5.7l it says you...

Anywhere to camp on shore, via my boat, in mid-Chesapeake Bay?

We're trying to plan our annual camping trip, and I thought it would be fun to throw the tent on the boat and find someplace we could camp, but get there by boat. We're mid-Bay, so anything between roughly Rock Hall (I did find Hart Miller State Park, which looks great, but is a little too far...

Is this reasonable charges for replacing head gaskets?

I'm trying to determine whether/how much I should complain about this. So before I tell you how many hours they charged, let me know how many hours you think is reasonable, or give a range (if you're interested). Here's the description of the work done: COMPLETED: Sprayed down engine...

    New exhaust elbow question 5.7l

My new exhaust elbows came with a little bag with a brass plug and a tag that says, "Important these exhaust elbows are self draining. As a result of testing the drain holes and plugs are not required." On the surface it sounds very self explanatory. but what does that mean? Am I not supposed...

    Valve problem, what to do?

Boat will not go above 3000-3200 under load. Tried all the easy things, and finally had someone look at it. They did a compression check and all valves are 140-160 except one that is "sometimes up to a 100, sometimes only 25" (This is from a message they left me. He says it's probably a bent...

    What makes an ignition "Thunderbolt"?

So I have a '94 270 with a single 5.7L Mercruiser in it. The airfilter cover says "Thunderbolt" ignition on it. When I recently bought a slave solenoid from Sterndrive.com, they sent me the one according to my engine serial #, which turned out to be the wrong one to match what I had. Same...

Heading over there for the weekend. We just want to be somewhere that it's easy to walk to restaurants, shops, bars, etc. Needs to be pet friendly. Any suggestions? Thanks!

drive slips out of gear at high RPM?

Left the dock yesterday, got past the buoy and pushed the throttle down. Got up on plane, about 3200 RPM, then about 20 secs later the engine races and we fall off plane like I put it in neutral. My first thought was the prop had spun off, but checked and it was there. Tried again and this...

    Mechanics lien...really?

Here's the story. Called a mechanic a month ago to come replace bellows and bearing on my boat, at my home. He showed up on a Friday, worked for 2 hours (basically removed the drive and 2 out of 3 old bellows), said he needed a part (I had already bought all the parts, and I'm pretty sure they...

    Windshield/deck liner leak

So I finally found the source (ok, the 3rd! source) of my wet carpet and condensation troubles for the past year... In addition to the cracked cockpit drain fitting, and the missing middle dog on the fwd port window, water has been leaking thru the damaged gasket on the middle vent window (in...

'94 270, where is this water coming from?

Have a new (to us) '94 270 sundancer. I know that when it rains, water drips from the very top, center of the windshield right where the anchor light mounts. It drips onto the companionway door and runs down into the track. I would think it would then drain into the little cockpit sump and...

Multiple email notices about subscribed forum

Last week I subscribed to the Mid-Atlantic Forum on a weekly basis. Since then I've been getting about 10 emails a day, all saying the same thing (this or that is a new thread - which it's not - and this or that thread has been updated - which it hasn't)?

How to remove radio '94 270

My radio has gone kaput, or at least the channels that control the cockpit speakers have. I need to replace it. It is the stock Clarion and is mounted in the lower half of the 120V panel. There is a trim ring that just pulls straight off, but I cannot figure out how to remove the radio? I...
