CERN fires up today

I've been following this for sometime - I think it's Great 10 billion - heck the Chinese spent 40 billion on the Olympics

this article is a good one too http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26439957/

A good trivia question on this is - What major Innovation has already come from this ? (something we all use)

I read that article too. Amazing at 99.9999999999% the speed of light and 100,000 times the heat of the sun's core. Those are just incredible numbers they are working with.

THink it will blow up? :smt001

They are insane!!!:smt021 They are going to rip the space-time continuum to shreds. They are going to open a black hole and swallow the earth. These are the end days.:wow:

Or they might find out that when you speed 2 protons up to 99.9999999% of the speed of light and run them into each other, nothing happens:grin:. Just kidding anyway, now someone will probably call me a dickhead and give me red balls. Should have posted this in the useless thread anyway.

:smt043:smt043 Good stuff.

Wait till you see how much it costs to fire up...

"The LHC constitutes an exceptional engineering challenge with unique operational issues on account of the huge energy stored in the magnets and the beams. While operating, the total energy stored in the magnets is 10 GJ (equivalent to 2.4 tons of TNT) and the total energy carried by the two beams reaches 724 MJ."

I don't care if it blows up (but I doubt it) & I want to travel by worm hole or meet myself in another dimension or time line

I think I mentioned this before that John Titor spoke of cern when he talked about his time machine http://www.johntitor.com/

also invest in GE

Please note that the world didn't end today. Unlike the luddites predicted. They even had some "scientists" claim that this is a doomsday machine. Stupid. And remember, these are the same stupid people who believe in the global warming fantasy. Unfortunately, it's going to take more time to prove that ruse to be false.

BTW, It probably will be a few months, maybe a year, before they crank LHC up to full power. Then in 10 years, they'll upgrade it.

Best regards,
Frank

But my question is how many jigawatts does that flux capacitor need......

what the machine is designed to do is still a month away from actually trying it & even then more months until it really gets going & maybe even yrs until it is doing what it can do

All it did now was send a proton around the loop (as a test)

so you have a little time left to enjoy

If they had any sense of humor at all they would anounce that they plan to have it fully operational on 12-21-2012. Isn't that the last day of the Myan calander?

first it was palidromes now Large Hadron Collider! what is next?

 THAT would be something...and we could definitely weed out the wackos who invariably would start some kind of "gathering" for the apocalypse.

My brother spent 7 years working at CERN on that collector. He still travels there a couple times a year to check on some ongoing projects. I’ve been on a couple tours of that place. Amazing facility.

If you search the CERN site for “Hildreth,” you’ll likely find all sorts of info on his work. Unfortunately, he’s a blow boater. I guess nobody’s perfect.
