From your experience how much distance a 1995 Sea Ray Sundancer 370 with twins 7.4, 310 HP, 278 gal, can do before refueling.

Frankly I never really calculated my mileage/gallon since during my trips I used to mix cruising speed and idle speed, but I believe it is around 0.7-0.8 mpg. However I am planning a longer trip, at cruising speed next summer (around 140-150 NM ) and I would appreciate to get that type of information.

Thank you

Nominal burn for a 310 HP 7.4 at 3000 RPM is 14 GPH and 16 GPH at 3500. The rest you can do with a calculator and is left as an exercise to the captain.

BigAl,

We had a '95 370 Dancer for 2 seasons. Great boat! We took our log book at the end of the season and added up all engine hours. Then added up all gallons of fuel purchased. After doing the math, we came away with about 20 GPH. Like you, we did a pretty fair mix of cruising speed, (although maybe slightly heavy on longer cruises). With 270 + gallons of fuel, you could easily do 140-150 NM, (less than 10 hours at 17 knots). However, many boaters adhear to the 1/3 rule - plan to use 1/3 fuel going out, 1/3 to get back and keep 1/3 in reserve. I know, for a long cruise you may not be concerned with getting back without refueling, but the principle is the same - keep enough fuel in reserve to get to a place where you can refuel.

Have a great cruise.
