Ok I have a Goode windless and yesterday when pulling up anchor it started slowing down then stopped. You can hear the solinoids clicking but does not retrieve. This is a rode windless and the solinoids are in the anchor locker. Took the top cover off and all gears working fine and nothing bound up. Any ideas? Thanks

Really not sure if there are any diy parts besides replaceing the motor on these things .Good offers repair services on thier web site but its almost cheaper to buy a refurb from them and new gasket.I have one that the wires seem to have streached out of the motor on and will probably replace the motor for 200.00 then install it or sell it and upgrade to a rope and chain version seeing i am also thinking of a new pulpit .

A Good windlass is more than a motor turning gears. On a '94 model boat, you more than likely have some line handling parts, springs, etc. that need replacing in addition to the motor problem. Good will completely service your windlass and replace what needs replacing in a way that you cannot tell it from a new one when it is returned.

Something to consider on older windlasses being sent in for service where you know you have a motor problem is their new 4 pole motor design. It requires a different set of gears and new solenoids, but the advantages are significant.......much faster line take up speed, much stronger pulling power, and the solenoids are epoxy sealed and cannot get wet in the anchor locker. I went thru this on my Good windlass several years ago and found the rebuild with new motor and gear set to be significantly cheaper than replacing the windlass..........and it makes a ton of difference in how well the windlass works.

Take a look at Good's website for phone numbers, and call them for instructions.

My windless still works great with the exception of the motor stopping. Rode doen't slip (could use new rode though) and holds tight even though I snub it off. I do like the upgrade to the 4 pole and sealed sloenoids. The price of a reman is actually cheaper than a re-build. But I think it is with the 2 pole. Going to dig into it this week. Rather the rope/chain windless but that might come on a later up grade.

I did. A refurb from them this year and it was the cheapest fix available...

However it works flawless.

Call them and discuss the problem, they are awesome to work with and if there is an easy fix they will tell you..

Good ole boys!!!!
