:smt100:smt100:smt100:smt100:smt100My transom housing has two completely exposed seals on the bottom half of the housing where the transom bolts go through. No leaks into my transom...yet, that I can see. The piece that ordinarily covers the seal in the transom housing has completely corroded away! There is also a fat hole in the side of the gimbal housing where it also corroded away.

I believe the Alpha One in 1979 was considered a Gen One. Anybody out there know where I can find these parts for a reasonable price.

A week ago I needed the exact same parts. I found a guy on ebay that specializes in gimbal housing, bell housing, struts, etc. Do a search on ebay for a store called Mikes alpha's. Prices were great, delivery was in 2 days and in great condition. I couldn't be more impressed.

Thanks, I sent him an email. I could use a great price at this moment!

I began looking around and found a few on ebay that were pretty cheap but I would rather give Mikes Alphas the business since he is trusted and recommended.

Call Rick at Rick's Master Marine here in Seattle. 1-800-767-0741.
He has a little of everything and is a great guy.

1979? They hadn't invented the Alpha One yet.
Naming was a little looser back then, but not an Alpha One. Sometimes called an MR drive. Today they ARE often referred to as an Alpha One, but really weren't. They're very similar - but they are different. I think you can even put an Alpha One (Gen 1) outdrive on the old transom. Not sure if it works the other way. So be sure if someone sells you an Alpha One Gimbal that your outdrive will attach to it.

This was great advice and Mike is an even greater guy. Thank You.

I just wanted to repost about how great the service and price was at Mikes Alpha's. :smt038

What a wonderful resource this is especially if you have an older Merc (pre-alpha etc.) I was able to get a fully restored Gimbal assembly and housing for $750 SHIPPED! The entire setup looks absolutely brand new and the price is far away different from what I was quoted by more than half the price for the housing assembly alone.

I highly recommend him, especially if you have an older merc.
He is rather difficult to find on EBay but his telephone number is
1-321-373-1467 in Florida and his EBay Name is mr.mike.mercruiser

I have no affiliation with Mike and his business except as a very satisfied customer and wanted to share my experience here.
