I am hoping to source a front port windshield from a 1981-1985 amberjack 255. Anyone have any suggestions on a salvage yard or boat scrap yard in the Maryland area? Thank you

I live in MD and have never seen or heard of a salvage yard for boats. All I ever see is them being crushed and hauled away in a dumpster.

FL is about the only Salvage area I know of and there are hundreds of them. Other states may have them as well, but unsure of which ones.

With all the damaged boats in Fla you would think that there would be a big business in used parts with site where you could even search by boat model. If they exist I haven't found one just looking for something as simple as props. It is a shame how much must be going into landfills.
Have to wonder how much insurance costs could be lower if they encouraged parts recycling.

The problem is most boat(s) live in salt water Most things on them are pretty much gone after they sit for a while. The cost of removing all of the part and storing them is much greater then that of an auto salvage yard, because they will most likely sit and rot away by the time they are actually needed. Not to mention the shipping cost's of those parts.

I've been trying to find a hard top and wind shield for a 480 for years now, even made ton's of calls. When I tracked one down it was cost prohibitive to even consider buying it, let alone getting to where I am. The people in the bis. make it such that you can't buy parts like that. I can make what I was looking for 10x over for the cost of that top and wind shield.

The problem is how the parts are being calculated for there worth. It's some percentage off of new. How do calculate a percentage off of new when there isn't any new parts to be had. ...

Our marina is owned by a boat salvage/tow guy/company. We have a lot of sunk boats come thru here monthly, one reason our slips are cheap price, most of owners money is from salvage.
I have mentioned before, once they salvage a boat, they strip it like piranhas on cattle, all stainless goes to china, engines go to Crazy Rays scrap yard, everything else goes to crushers at county dump. Owner told me the liability issue of selling a part that ends up on a boat and is root cause of human injury is not worth his time to part one out.
I am sure this is the general consensus.

This question belongs on the FAQ list for every boating forum. Unfortunately, the answer is almost never good. I have yet to see anybody find a junked boat that has usable parts.

Windshields are a real problem, even for newer boats. If the glass is from Taylor Made, and they still have the tooling, they can build a one-off. If they don't have the tooling, tough luck. (I saw this recently for a 2020 Rinker.)

In Quincy, Ma there is a large used boat parts yard. massmarineparts.com

We have a massive catamaran on shore, they just removed the mast. I will try go in morning and provide pics.
I went this morning to take pics. All thats left is 3 Humpty Dumpty dumpsters filled with what was a catamaran. One thing I noticed, the hull was plywood. Ya. Plywood. Ever hear of that?

The junk guys know boats are a dead end not worth the time to keep parts off of them.

They get the metal off to scrap it, send the fiberglass/wood to the incinerator/landfill and ebay the rest. The likelyhood of finding glass, seats or canvas structures is almost zero in the Mid Atlantic area.

Can I like this 10 times?

Boat "junkyards" are out there, it just takes a bit of work to find them.

This one's not in Maryland (nor near) but has plenty of boats...

I know they are not local to you but Lanier Marine in GA has a very big selection of used/broken boats. I have walked their yard looking for treasures. Might be worth a try.

Is it a secret?
Nope, not a secret but those places are hard to run across. That one was in my old stomping ground for DECADES and I had no idea it existed. I even owned an older boat at the time and probably could have used a few parts from there. I just posted it because of the previous comments that said (basically) that they don't exist anywhere.

Here's their FB link to that place for folks that use that stuff:

There are also several in Florida. Here are two:

https://donsmarinesalvageyard.com/

Just like the Georgia one posted above, I'll bet there are several others along the eastern seaboard that just don't get the advertising and awareness that they should. Might even be a few in Maryland!!
