Official Cummins QSM11 Thread

Oh, I thought this was in reference to Barnacle bust'n.
Isn't it around every 1000 hours for a teardown?
Tom , how often do u think a fresh water boat needs to be torn apart?

Sorry sir

They love her more than we do , it’s in heated storage. But we love it also.
That’s us, we r happy with her. Now we need to send the 44db down the road.

So cool, I forgot you had the 390 MY before the 44 DB.
Yep, we had a 390my. But wife thought she wanted more out door space. The 390
Was way under powered with the gas big blocks.
I was thrilled she liked the 44 db with the QSC’s. Great boat , runs like scolded hound.
But I like a hard top and it seems the 480my with the QSM’s ck’s most boxes.
Oh, she also wanted all the cabin space back. Once she saw the room
On the 480 it was done deal.

Sea Ray sent the info to tear her apart today.
It has to be best customer support in the industry period.

The 480my is sitting in heated storage at son rise marina in Sandusky oh.
Our 44db is still sitting at the the Ohio River close to Portsmouth Ohio.

In my opinion every 1000 engine hours. Even though there may be no calcium buildup in the coolers like what the saltwater environment does, they still need to have the seals replaced and pressure checked.

Great answer sir, never thought about that part.

QSM 11 owners - Do you do a Treatment Backflush your engines and coolers every couple years?
I back flush the mains every spring. Barnacle buster every other year.

You were right, I was asking if everyone is doing a backflush and is it worth it. I was also trying to say i have not done a back flush cleaning since 2019 when I did a full aftercooler service.

The 480my has started to show signs on exhaust manifold leaks, qsm11 powered. The previous owner willing to fix. My survey guy said run it this season fix over winter.
Now I need to come up with estimates for repair so I can get $$$ back from previous owner. Boat only has like 630hrs.
Anyone have any idea what the cost is to fix the exhaust manifold leaks?
Thanks

I paid just under $5k per side which included new manifolds, bolts, etc. while you are there might as well have the Aftercoolers cleaned and pressure tested.

Lessons learned (I hear) even Cummins new exhaust manifolds should be tested for trueness at the matting surfaces.

I'm not a good source for cost as I did much the work myself. But it is a job for a qualified shop that is aware there is a Cummins Technical Bulletin for manifold bolts to be implemented when doing the work, mating surface cleanliness can't be understated, and that the bolt torque sequence is most important. In my case I milled the manifolds true which I don't think any shop will do. Someone also mentioned or I heard it somewhere that there are upgraded exhaust manifold gaskets - look into that. I can't even give an idea what it'll take to access the engines to do the work on a MY or what other equipment needs to be moved out of the way. But, when torn down it's a no brainer to service the heat exchangers, change the thermostats, change the coolant and oil hoses, measure the impeller clearance on the turbochargers and get them serviced if needed, have DiAngelo rebuild the hot section of the exhaust risers, and clean/detail the engine. All of that will be on the new owner through.
