Oh have we bloody colonists bastardized the King's English!

Ah yes...tick over...idle! I know where that term really applies - on the narrow gauge trains in the Lake District. I swear those engines sound like 1 cylinder diesels - and at idle - they sound like they are "ticking over"...but I digress!

Cold oil pressures at "tick over" in the 50 psi range are not unusual. After warm-up, Oil pressure at idle, on some engines, drops to the 30's or even mid 20's, and recovers to the 40's or 50's on throttle up.

A lot depends on the viscosity of your oil. The thinner oils will have lower oil pressure at idle - sorry - tick over.

What are you using?

Now on to "near side", "off side", "boots" and "bonnets"!
