Our Fifth trip to Catalina was planned as sort of a recon mission for an upcoming trip to Cherry Cove in October. As you can see from the map, mooring at Isthmus is really close to both Cherry and 4th of July Coves. The one thing that we immediately noticed upon being assigned a mooring was that 80% of the boats had their bows facing the beach and the little town of Two Harbors. I believe this is the case due to the wind that naturally travels through the valley from Cat Harbor to Isthmus. We liked the fact that lunchtime in the cockpit, the afternoon sun is on the bow instead of the back of the boat.
We decided to take a trip to Two Harbors to explore and to take the 10 minute walk over to Cat Harbor. Although maybe 50% of the moorings were taken, the dinghy dock was packed. Two Harbors has a couple of small restaurants and well stocked general store. Talking with some of the workers, Two Harbors is the location where a lot of hikers and campers start their trips, so we saw plenty of backpacks onshore.
We certainly enjoyed the weekend. We saw another 450EB on one of the cans named "GiGi LaLa", a few Sundancers and a 400 Sedan Bridge on the trip. Cell coverage was excellent. This coming weekend is normally "Buccaneer Days", but due to Covid, was cancelled this year. We will be back in 2021 to check it out.
