Westerbeke 8.5 KW gas gen. pulley shearpin breaking

I have a 39' Express 1988. Bought 2years ago. Generator only had 8 original hours use.( REALLY! ) After initially using Gen. for 7-8 hours, shearpin holding pulley(for belt) onto governer shaft snapped. Now after every 3-4 hours of use, shearpin will break again. Shaft spins freely with no binding. Serpentine belt moves freely with no sign of misalignment or vibration after new pin is installed. No service or correction notices were ever sent out by Westerbeke according to my mechanic. His solution for the upcoming season is to WELD the pulley onto the shaft. Any input would be appreciated.

Sounds like the governor is binding up under certain conditions. Perhaps when hot, or at a certain RPM? Sounds like you need a new governor and a new mechanic. BTW, did the idiot check the oil level in the governor?
