The Keys Hotel info.

Man, I want to go now.
In all reality, my wife will be retiring on December 31st 2021, and I want to take her on a trip.
I was thinking somewhere in the Caribbean, but with all the crap going on I was thinking somewhere in Florida.
I still might do that after the first of the year.
I've never been to Florida, except a layover at Miami.
 
If you make the trip with your wife, consider flying into Ft Myers and taking the "Key West Express" from Ft Myers Beach to Key West. Its a great experience and you disembark right near the foot of Duval street. You avoid the congested drive from Miami down the Keys and you don't have to find parking for the thing when you get there. You don't need a car once you are there. Parking is difficult and time consuming in KW. You can make your return the same day or stay over and return on the day of your choice.

+1 on this strategy. It goes pretty early in the morning, so we would just get a motel room near the dock the night before. Plenty of transportation options once you are on the island. Plan lunch at B.O.'s Fish Wagon. I wasn't sure if Irma blew him away, but just looked it up, and he's going strong.

Im in the keys right now, i rent a house in marathon right off boot key harbour. Marathon is a Amazing place to stay. Turtle hospital, sombrero beach, bahaia honda state beach, sombrero reef all within minutes by car or boat. A ton of hidden jems too like sunset bar and grill, barnacle barnys, skip jack and dockside for food. Key west is nice for the run and gun drinking but if your lookinh for the relaxation and slow pace Marathon is a must

I just booked our airline tickets direct into key west. We are there feb 18 to the 28th….. so looking forward to it and this thread isn’t helping

No worries, you will have fun in KW as well, and make this mess we are talking about a side trip. We've probably been there so many times, that one more encore at Sloppy's or another walk down Duval won't matter. If you are a first timer, do not let KW fall by the wayside. Def worth the stay.
Damn Good Food, and AB Marina restaurant. Schooner Warf (Especially on Sunday mornings Lobster Omelet). B.O. Fish Wagon. Add as you like. That is all.

No we have been going there for years and years. I love the place for 10 days … that’s it
 
Right there with you guys! Just booked a week in Marathon second week of January, can’t wait, staying at Capt Pips by Sunset Grille. Will for sure get down to KW a day or two. Like you Blue, been going down since early 2000’s, just love it down there. Nothing like leaving the cold winter of Michigan and getting down there, wandering around with a cold drink in your hand and the sun on your face:)

Also stayed there a couple of years ago and i. It was ideally located with a great balcony and view. pretty active pool scene mid-afternoon. Would recommend.

BTW, We've now done the Miami to KW drive twice. Not a big fan of the drive itself. For the most part it's pretty boring and slow going with the occasional view. That said, the destination was worth the drive each time.

We were in the green parrot when we first heard of covid in February 2 years ago….bar was just packed shoulder to shoulder at happy hour… amazing how that switch flipped.

Headed back down in January and have been debating driving lauderdale down to key west but everybody says its complete slow motion and that doesn't excite me..slow motion fir me would be a pool and some pops..and 5 days seems to be long enough for all my shenanigans blueone 10 days you are a champ my man!! Absolutely do love key west and always recommend to everybody!
 
Skip the miami travel. I95 to the fort peirce exit. Thats the florida turnpike and take to the end and ya hit Rt 1. You can save on all the Miami traffic
