Official 390 E.C. Thread

NEED HELP on VALUATION . . . What's it worth?

Initially, I obtained this to help my oldest son to use as a live-aboard while going through a divorce - now he's moving to Orlando and won't be near where we could anchor/moor/dock it.

So, before I get in too deep, I am going to sell it.

But (1) I don't want to rip anyone off and

(2) I don't want to have it for sale forever b/c I'm asking too much.

1988 SeaRay 390 EC with twin 454s/7.4L Gassers.
Engine Port: 460 hrs.
Engine Starboard: 470 hrs.
Onan 6.5kw Generator
Diver Cleaned bottom: August 13, 2016.

All original. I recently obtained her from original owner. Has been docked at house on canal off of the ICW in Lighthouse Point for several years.

Neither engines nor generator have been started in at least 4 years, possibly five.

I've read through this entire thread and can say there are the usual water leaks as leakage is visible. The Captain's chair and other cockpit seat port need rebuilt as the wood has rotted as all the 1988s and prior rot.

Everthing is on the boat, even the original spotlight (well, I removed that and took it home so it wouldn't be stolen).

The bilge was dry before I towed it and even after I towed it 3.5 miles and anchored it in Lake Boca Raton for two weeks. But then had diver scrape bottom and clean around props. So when I towed it again 60 miles, props turned and starboard shaft leaked through packing - but was able to bilge with no problem with existing pump and simply hooking up one battery.

Will most likely have professional work on engines to get them running in the next week or so.

SIMPLY PUT - I didn't realize the cost of moving this vessel was so high given its size and didn't realize the cost of fuel per hour for operation; therefore, not a good vessel for my son b/c we live in Tampa Bay Area and it is currently anchored in the St. Lucie River.

QUESTION: What's it worth? What should I ask for it?

Total cost I'm in it so far: several thousand.

Whether I break even or not - depends I guess on the market.

To trailer it from east coast to west coast Florida: about $1,500 - $2,500 including a marina's charge to lift out and in at $10 per foot.

Hate to be a bearer of bad news but a boat in that condition takes a special buyer who has the skills and money to get it operational. Market for almost 30 year old boats that have not been maintained is catch as catch can. You will be lucky to find a buyer. You may have to just give it away to stop the bleeding of funds. A gas 390 EC in good running well maintained condition may bring mid to upper 20s. Maybe in to the 30s if it is just perfect. I just completed a hull up restoration of a diesel 390EC so I know exactly what is involved.

If you really want a definitive answer you will have to hire a accredited marine surveyor. It will set you back about $500.

Cost me $2,200 to haul from Ocala to St Augustine plus boat yard charges.

I also would get some parts. Sorry it is so bad of shape but it would cost you a lot of cash to get that up to just sleep on it let alone if the motors are any good plus stringers lots of money to rebuild. sorry for your misfortune;

wow just saw the pics so sad. ur plan was to use it as a live aboard?

if your on facebook check out classic searay and other power boats. lots of other 390 owners out there

Saw the photos. Burn it. Boat has no value as far as I can see. Too much water damage. I will bet the stringers are rotted and fuel tanks leak.

Wow Al, that's direct.

Sad to see the condition.

Perserd, If you decide to part it, I'd be interested in the main sliding cabin door and a few other things. I'm in Melbourne and can head down to remove myself. PM on what you decide to do.

I thought mine was bad when I started. That one is ten times worse. Total neglect for years. At least my dad, old as he was, tried to maintain the boat. Fresh water leakage to the interior rots everything. The entire interior will have to be pulled out just to get rid of the mildew and mold. Would you sleep in there? Bulkheads, cabinets, stringers, floor beneath the water tank will be rotted. Deck core will be wet and rotted around windshield, windlass, stanchions and other penetrations - mine sure was. Cockpit needs a total rebuild. I dont even want to think about the fuel tanks and engines. You just went through the process. What would you pay for a boat like that? I probably pissed him off but he asked for an opinion and I just happen to be the worlds leading expert on restoring a 390EC. :->
