So if I understand correctly, since I also replace the mounts in the flywheel housing, I no longer need the fiber washer or the double wound washer. The rubber on the transom assembly takes the place of the fiber washer. Has anyone found any documentation on this? I haven't found anything on...
I was afraid you were going to tell me that the paint couldn't touch the drives. I knew that too, but had a brief lapse. A bit of elbow grease solved the problem.
It took me a while to figure out why there are two as well. Each engine has a hose coming off of the oil pan. The ends of the hoses are attached to each plug, so when you pull the plug, you can pull out the hose and drain the oil.
My new transom assembly came with rubber over where the rear engine mounts bolt in (see photo). I can't find any references to this rubber, and it seems to be more than just a protective cover. Does anyone know what it is? Should I just take it off?
I have a closed loop cooling system with a through hull water pickup. When I pulled the engines to replace the transom assemblies, I noticed that the water inlet from the outdrives was t'ed in with the through hull water pickup. Is this normal? What is the purpose of having both?
I am replacing transom assemblies on my 280 searay. The Original factory assembles were extremely corroded. Does anyone have tips on the best way to seal the assemblies to the hull? The factory ones just used the seal and nothing else. I was thinking of bellows adhesive on the back of the...
I have both of my engines out on a new to me boat (2005 280 Searay [dual 5.0 MPI Bravos]).
The drive couplers look to be in good shape, the teeth look almost perfect and the rubber is intact (although has some flakes). I am unsure when they were last replaced. When the couplers go, is it...
Thank you both. It definitely does not go all the way through, and if I look closely, it doesn't look to be cracked, however it does seem to propagate like a crack. Here is a picture that's a bit zoomed out. It is on the center of the prop, extending in from the base of the blade.
I just bought a new searay 280 sundancer, and while I was polishing up the props, I noticed some marks that look like they could be cracks in the hub. Can anyone tell me if these marks are common, or if they are stress cracks? Do I need to get them repaired or replaced?
