Official 240 Sundancer Thread

I replaced my bow light bulb with an LED. This turned the green starboard blue because the color of the LED is a whiter. I placed a butterscotch candy wrapper inside the lens to get it back to green. I only boat on small inland lakes and rarely am underway in the dark. Doubt I will ever have an issue. If I ever get stopped on LOTO for it, I will update.

The fixture maggieiscrazy posted should be a direct replacement. No need to redrill mounting or wire path. If you aren't cool with Amazon, you buy that light from Westmarine or a couple other online stores.

I doubt you'd have a problem with being stopped by the water patrol on LOTO. The one thing that will garner attention is not having your running lights on - but that's of course obvious. I've never heard of someone being stopped because their lights weren't bright enough - at least on the lakes in Missouri.

Found out recently that McCall Marine has gone in at Rock Lane in the old MarineMax location, and he was the former MarineMax service manager. Another member had them replace their windshield on their 270 SLX after his marina crushed it and the shop they used couldn’t figure out how to install it.

Received and installed our decals for the name of our 240 this week. Changed the design some in the end, but we are thrilled with how they turned out!

Looks like DaveS has started the 260 thread so I'll follow in his wake and start the 240DA thread.
Chime in all you 240DA owners and talk about your boat. If you don't have one and maybe interested in buying one, ask your questions here.
The biggest thing that bothers me about my boat is that no anchor roller came with it. A big over-sight on the design of that boat. Other than that, I wish I had a bigger motor.
It's a great boat for us!

The biggest thing that pisses me off about my boat is not having a windlass, and not having a Jenny. Horrible; however, after a lot of research, there isn’t a cost effective solution. After that, the worst thing about my dancer 240 is going to bed in the v-berth and having the table top support fall out, and/or the cushion slide off. It makes me want to scuttle the boat.

Does anyone have a system to keep the bed from falling apart in the night? It is absurd that this design flaw has wrecked so many nights out. You can forget about getting up in the night to use the head without the whole thing falling apart and waking up your spouse. It’s ridiculous. Anyone want to buy a cherry 240?

Hey Jack,

Do you have the black plastic support that goes port to starboard across the two rails and supports the widest part of the table top? Those seem to be made just a little short, so I drilled out a hole on each side and run a coarse-threaded screw in each hole to prevent the bar from falling out on overnights. It works brilliantly. If it ever breaks, I’ll make a replacement out of oak 3/4 oak stock.

To solve the cushion issue, I have a roll of drawer liner (the kind intended to keep things from sliding around in your kitchen or tool drawers) and we lay a couple pieces of that underneath the filler cushion. Stores easily and works great.

A windlass and genny would be nice to have, though I don’t have A/C and have three batteries so the genny isn’t as big a concern for me. Shore power keeps the batteries topped up so I can stay out all weekend with the fridge on and use lights when needed and not have to worry about a thing.

All good arguments. My biggest grind is lack of genny. We typically dont even try the v-birth. We sleep in the aft cabin. The windlass can be done and there are a few posts in here where folks have done it. Expensive if you aren't an electrician/fiberglasser/contortionist, however. We have already figured on our next boat. We have also understood this is an entry level. Didnt realise going in. But, we have learned a ton to make good decisions on what our next boat will look like.

Jack, I was saying the same thing at 4am today when my daughter moved herself while sleep and the table dropped!! 4 years ago I had applied some industrial strength velcro to the table and support and it worked great until this morning when the adhesive finally had enough. I think I'm going to look into maybe putting in some type of pin/socket setup. I'll post if I find something that works. As far as the cushion I bought a rubber mat that is made to prevent rugs from sliding on hardwood floors and that works fantastic.

All great points. When we were looking to move up, my admiral was between wanting a cruiser and wanting a tritoon. When we found our 240, she knew this was the route she wanted to go and indicated this would be our “trial” boat to see if we both liked it - through I already knew this is the route I wanted to go. She’s already talking about our next one in a few years (probably 5) and wants to settle in for somewhere in the range of a 320 Dancer and a 350 Dancer Coupe. If I had endless buckets of cash, I’d go with a L650 and be done with it but that isn’t in the immediate future! LOL

i took the plastic one to a machine shop and they manufactured a longer aluminium support for me . now the bed holds .

the mid cabin is an insult for the user . no porthole , no ventilation and too small to stretch for an adult . ( other 24 footer have bigger mid cabins and ventilation ) .

Does anyone know where to buy a shower curtain for my 2008 240 dancer?

We got this boat a few months ago and love it! Had a little hiccup with the cfm but hopefully that's solved. A few newbie questions because this is our first i/o cruiser.

Just over idle has a deep drone sound in the cockpit. Is this normal? Goes away at higher rpm.

I can't get the outlets to work on 12vdc. It tried resetting the gfci on the galley cabinet but no luck.

When I put ear-muffs on, water seems to come out everywhere except the prop exhaust. Even when I put it in gear only a little comes out. Tried it with salt away yesterday and very little suds came out the exhaust but did come out everywhere else.

Any help appreciated!

It's good seeing this forum back as I also have a 240. Maybe we can get more 240 specific stuff on here.

I'll speak more to the the 12v question....the easiest thing to check first is to make sure that the battery selector switch is not turned off. Even if on shore power, one of the batteries must be selected for anything 12v to work. Does anything else 12v work other than the outlets, or is everything 12v not working? Next would be the breaker and the fuses, assuming that you are getting juice to the panel.

I will let someone more versed on the outdrive issue answer that, but from what you describe, that does not sound right. If nothing else, I'd have the outdrive serviced since you just took ownership of the boat. Did you have a survey done? If so, I'd be curious as to what the surveyor said regarding the outdrive, but either way, I'd still have the outdrive serviced so that you will know where you stand.

Yes all the other 12v items are working while the battery selector switch is on. I did have it surveyed and the surveyor said for the age of the boat it was "1 out of 100" so I was really happy about that. For the outdrive section it just says "Good condition, no damage and serviceable" It had 81 hours when I got it. After I put 5 or 6 hours the fueling issue popped up. My mechanic just gave the boat back for the cfm and we're going to service the outdrive soon. He said we may need to look into the gimbal bearing and there is a tiny leak of drive oil but he wanted to do it all at once. Not hearing any grinding with turns or high pitch squeal so not sure. Keeping close eye on the drive oil in the meantime. The drone is only at low rpm mainly hear it in the cockpit with hatch closed not necessarily behind the boat (like when I put the ears on). High rpm sounds like a champ.

For the outlets, I'd focus on the fuses now. Reminds me of an issue I had earlier this year where everything 12v was working fine and then I lost the cabin lights. Nothing else...just the cabin lights. In my case, the fuse was fine and they still weren't working. I was getting frustrated so I started tracing the wires to the fuse box under the helm and as soon as I touched the wire for the cabin lights they came on again. Wiggled the wire a bit more and they turned back off, then on, etc. Basically, it came down to the connector on the end of the wire being loose and I just crimped another on.

Calling all 240 DA owners I have a never been used teal green camper top for 1997 240 DA (fits other year models). This was from great lakes boat top factory and made with sunbrella caremark undercoating. Does not include the tubing stru ture. Email me at rgreenberg@bex.net if you are interested or want to see pics. Boat shown with aft curtain so you can see the boat style.

While in idle you won't have much water coming out of the props, IIRC it comes out of the gimbal housing through idle relief ports. At least thats where mine comes out when on the muffs.

Thanks, I'll check this weekend.

Makes me wonder how well it gets flushed. I guess it needs to run longer with some throttle.

Hey guys I am new with a 2001 240 Sundancer. The helm seat is in a pretty bad condition. Are there any model-specific seat covers or complete replacement seats that you could recommend (preferably budget-friendly)?

Most likely you will need to have it recovered by a local canvas/upholstery shop.
You should complete your profile with your location that way others may be able to help with recommendations for this or other questions you may have.
Welcome aboard CSR.

PS There is nothing "budget friendly" about boating.
