HELP!!!! Starting Issues

Hot wired the purple, fired right up!! Can’t tell you how much I appreciate all your help! I guess I just need to trace that purple wire from the key forward. Of course it looks like it jumps every gauge in the dash. I have 12v on purple after shifter but not at cannon plug(which I did the other day). If so I would think one of the gauges?

Like you said, if the shift interrupt has a purple wire, check that out. I don't have the wiring diagram for your alpha boat. Def. not the gauge. Had a 2006 that used the purple for the neutral safety switch on the shift plate on the engine.

At least you know how to go for a boat ride now.:D

Diagram looks like it goes from key, through shifter, to each gauge to cannon plug. I have 12v after the shifter, but not at the cannon plug. Thanks for everything!! I’ll report back when I find it.

Someone smarter than me said to check the small terminal on the starter solenoid, it provides 12v when cranking

Check how? I have the battery terminal, then there’s 2 small terminals, but I only use one. I have a red/purple wire and an orange wire connected to the 90 amp fuse the way it was hooked up to the old starter. Then I have the red/yellow wire connected to the small terminal on the right side of the starter.

One more thing. Not sure what kind of switch your using but you shouldn't be losing continuity on the ignition terminal, purple wire connection, when the key is in the start position. Have you tested these switches for that?

Yes, that’s what is happening. All 3 switches. Is there a sensor or something that will do that? Relay?

If it were in the wiring I could see it losing some voltage but this goes from 12v to 0 v as soon as the key is turned to start.

No sensor and neutral safety and shift interrupt would have nothing to do with power on the purple.

Test your switch, check continuity between battery and ignition terminal when key is in start position.

Will check an a bit. Can’t imagine 3 switches all being bad. This all happened all of a sudden. Boat ran great one day, wouldn’t start the next.

Check for corrosion at the ecm plug. Purple turns to pink at that point. Wouldn't be a bad idea to open all your connections for a look/see.

I have continuity between the battery and ignition terminals in run and start

Is this telling me I have the switch wired wrong?? This says purple to ignition terminal.

I would like to thank everyone for all there help and to apologize to everyone for being a complete JA. I had the switch wired wrong. Looking back today there were two different places I found the wiring diagram. One had the red/purple on the ignition terminal and one had the purple on it. Of course I had it backwards. Thanks again to everyone. Hope I return the favor to someone else sometime.

Still doesn’t explain why it ran one day and not the next?! And I could’ve swore I took one wire at a time off and put it on the appropriate terminal on the new switch. I actually have the original switch back on. Sorry again and thank you, I learned a ton.

Hearing clicking in the engine compartment when hitting start button on the dash. Batteries are fully charged reading 13.6V. After a few tries she eventually fires. Any way to determine if it is starter solenoid vs starter not engaging?

You can tap them with a mallet and see if that helps. First the solenoid and try, then the starter. If the first one gets it to start it’s probably not the starter itself
