Took our first long day trip this weekend from our home marina on the South Shore of Long Island to the Statue of Liberty and circled Manhattan. It was little less than 3 hours to get to Liberty Island and about another hour up the East River into the Harlem River and then south down the Hudson. We had nice weather with temps in the low 70’s and 2 foot seas which made this a great first trip off the year. NY Harbor is a busy harbor with freighters moving through and multiple ferries criss crossing the East River between Staten Island, Brooklyn and Manhattan. Besides seeing the Statue of Liberty on our own boat it was cool seeing the United Nations building, Freedom Tower and Intrepid from the water. It was also interesting going under all the bridges I’ve been driving over for most of my life.
Here’s a few pics.

Looks like you had a great trip. Something similar was one of my first on my 340SDA when I brought her home to the south shore from Huntington - hoping to do it again this year!

Probably one of the best days we’ve had on the water! Here’s a better picture of the UN.

I thought the East River would melt the bottom paint off. That’s what I learned from watching Law & Order.
It was pretty toxic when I was growing up (I'm 65 next month) but they've done a lot to clean it up over the years. Truthfully I was surprised how clean it was - no trash or bodies. :) Once we got north of NY Harbor there were very few boats on the East River or the Hudson.

Been to NYC many times and done the ferries and tours many times but it has to be a whole new perspective running your own boat in those waters. I remember once being really surprised at the speed of the current on the East River one day. I was thinking if you were a sailboat and heading up-current you'd just be plain out of luck.

Thanks for posting. Really cool stuff.

Great pics, brings back great memories. We took my ex father-in-laws Sea Ray 410 Aft Cabin from Washington, DC to NYC about 15 years ago. Amazing trip, made an overnight stop in Cape May. I got chills coming into the NY harbor seeing the statue of liberty, and a little anxious with all of the boat traffic. It was shortly after 09/11, they were still doing construction then.

Had a similar experience the first time I boat the Potomac north to DC and Georgetown, super cool from the water.

Man I need a boat!

Wow, nice trip and pictures.

I feel way under traveled in my (new to me for the first season) trip of an hour and a half or so this past weekend under the Mackinaw bridge! Again, great pics, thanks for sharing.
