Go fast boats.

Sitting at tiki bar. All the go fast boats have engine hatches open is this like a car show? BTW how is it that every go fast operator looks exactly as you expect?

Please for the love of God, don’t take that to the bikini forum!

We were at PIB and a bunch of go fast boats came in. This 50 ft 1700hp monster all decked out comes in to dock behind us. Guys wife was out on the bow and as they go by she goes “I know what your thinking, little weiner. You would be correct”. They were a blast to hang with but yes their hatches are open all weekend.

If I had 2 or 3 badass big blocks, my hatches would be open too.

I've no desire to own one but I think they can be very cool. Did a few poker runs on a friend's boat on lake Travis many years ago. Was a lot of fun.

And yes, definitely a car show kind of thing to show the motors. Some of them have detailing that's unbelievable.

You forget all about those hardships when you're blasting along at 80mph.

Obviously never been a boat I wanted to own but they have some redeeming qualities.

Go-fast boaters usually lift the hatch when arriving at their destination to check for anything out of the ordinary, (which I also do) as well as let the engines cool off after a hard run and also show the engine bay off like a car guy would do.
I have a friend who has had go-fasts his entire life and currently owns a new 42' cigarette with stock twin 1100 Hp Mercury's (110mph top speed) that he leaves here on a lift at a marina in LI NY for the season. When he and his wife are not doing poker runs, they do all the things we do with our boats.... day cruise, restaurants, tie-ups but only stay for the day. When we travel as a group, they usually meet us at the destinations we go to that have hotels.
In the winter, he loads it on his trailer and drives it down to Haulover Marine Center in Miami where they dry rack it in an enormous storage shed for them and has a spot around back for his trailer and pick up. They fly down on a Friday and calls ahead to tell them when to have it fueled up and splashed for their arrival. Down there, they'll day boat, do weekend poker runs with a club consisting of two, or three destinations with hotel stay overs and even run to the Bahamas for the weekend. When they return to the marina, it's hauled with a huge fork lift, wash and stored for them until they return.
He and his wife are in their late fifties, each of which are professionals with their own successful businesses which make more money than you could count.
Pirate Lady........ You shouldn't stereotype and hate on people who choose to boat a different way than you do. Even the go-fast people who may fit the image you're portraying make and spend more money on their boating hobby than you could imagine. When it comes down it, for die hard boaters.... "The worst day on the water is still better than the best day on land".

Post #15 says it well. It is to cool down, look for anything broken and to show them off.
I have a handful of friends with go fast boats and they have a love for that culture just like all of us here do for cruisers.

I had a dock acquaintance say the other day " look at the piece of shit boat they don't belong on the lake " ... I really despise people that think like this. What I love about boating no matter the income level, schooling, budget, business owner or not, job you have, ... all boats can get to the same destination and all of us enjoy the life style the same.

Are go fast boats for me. No however I think they are badass and I can totally appreciate the care they put into them.

As far as the fat ugly guy. That must be a east coast thing. LOL

While living in Florida, I wanted to get one and join the Florida Powerboat Club. Another "want to do" that didn't happen.

Just did muscle cars... Now, not even messing with them.
I'm a member and they do great things for disadvantaged children. We have Hot Boat rallies and runs several times a year for good causes. Plus it's good fun to see everyone's wares, smell that race fuel and BS. We also have poker runs with all types of boats including cruisers to support boating on Fl waterways. A lot of great giving folks that also enjoy the fruits of labor....

In Sebastian, 70s and 80s, commonly used for drug running. Pickup boats coming into the inlet and meeting off Jungle Trail to unload. Boy, those were the days!

If they dumped off the coast damn near half the high school population skipped school the next day to loo k for square groupers. I actually found a complete "square" one evening while walking down the beach, another story. Usually they would break them up as they we scuttling thier loads.

The "muscle car" comparison is spot on.

My issue with the go fast types is the noise…I know it’s part of the “mystique” and the performance aspects of the engines, but having buddy blast up and down the river, in some cases within 50’ of the boat, well, the novelty wears off.
A year or two ago, we were at a dockside restaurant in Alexandria Bay NY, at the end of the town dock. A guy with a 35’ Fountain was “challenged” getting the thing alongside the dock. After about 5 minutes, he gets it tied up and shuts it down…..only to be met with a loud cheer from the rest of the patrons!
I don’t think I’m alone on the issue.
Btw…one thing going for the new flavour of the month, high performance centre consoles…even though most are 1200-1600+ hp, they are quiet at idle and tolerable at high rpm.
