Go fast boats.

Go Fast boats are in the same mind set as Hot Rods and Harleys. To the owners, there 2 types. First is the one with a passion and love for their machine. The second is strictly a show off with a "my d*** is bigger than yours" mind set.

Normally, it is the 2nd type that gives the 1st type a black eye in the public's opinion. To be honest, the 1st type usually tolerates the 2nd type, only because #1 respects #2's right to do it.

If I had the unlimited resources (spelled money) and facilities to accommodate one, heck yeah, I would have one. BUT be be courteous of others (that is where the 2nd type fails miserably)

all boats can get to the same destination and all of us enjoy the life style the same.
I don't know about that, I'd have to disagree.

In my neck of the woods there are a ton of boats & marinas. Lots of junk. I'd say easily over 60% of the boats around here aren't very nice and NEVER leave the dock. I'd be willing to bet at least 50% of the boats here never see a brush &/or soap. But like many have said, to each their own.

Not many on our lake, but the ones that are there are courteous. Hell, with the thru hull open, my boat is as loud as theirs in most cases. Lake of the Ozarks is a different story. Many of those are the my d__k's bigger than yours type. That's why my boat isn't there, among many other reasons.

Even made my wife cuss, and that's not the norm.

Ha, funny! Depending on your age, that is exactly the response the owners are looking for. Sure enough as those have noted, there are two kinds, those that appreciate hot rods and gear headery and those that are young and simply want the shock and awe (Think JDM with cheap cat-delete exhaust). I will remind everyone on this thread, Searay did/sort of does (think Third Gen) Pachanga's in 22, 27, and 32 footers. While not at the top of the jungle in 87-92, nor the third gen in 2015ish, they were go fasts. As far as noise, while at the marina I loved to hear during the first minute, the engines run unmuffled before the impellers flushed through the Vernalift mufflers. I never went to captains call for the very comment replying too. While I have aged significantly since the 270 Pachanga, I am threatening to ditch the DA and go find myself a decent shape 320 and repower it.
Regarding lifting the hatch, well, before I repowered i would not have opened the hatch for additional shock at awe at the marina. However, after spending 35K on the repower, I was .......moderately more inclined to show off. Its like owning a mint 63 Corvette fuelie and showing at the local car show. Sparks lots of conversation, mostly good and generates gear head camaraderie ala Boats.

We have our fair share of go fasts on the island…. But damn this weekend was all about huge center consoles 50’ plus ….never seen so many…. Seems to be the new look at me boat

Man their all over the Chesapeake, there was a 54' Scout and with price tag is 1.9M two slips down from me. If I had that money to spend on a boat it wouldn't be a CC. Crazy.

Today's center consoles are yesterday's off shore race boats. Sure the off shore boats are still being built but I was checking out the Florida Powerboat Club youtube videos last year and there are a lot of multi outboard cc's participating. Those big boats have close to a million dollars tied up in outboards.
The cc's themselves have to be cash cows for the boat builders. The hulls are high tech but the interiors are really limited.

Yes, most of the new big 4+ engine CC's are far too stylish to ever catch a fish on. Fountain used to be big into go-fasts but now they're selling some super cool luxury CC's.

I like them.

That said, if I'm spending that kind of money I want some nice, air conditioner, comfortable accomodations.

I have a friend who has had go-fasts his entire life and currently owns a new 42' cigarette with stock twin 1100 Hp Mercury's (110mph top speed) that he leaves here on a lift at a marina in LI NY for the season. When he and his wife are not doing poker runs, they do all the things we do with our boats.... day cruise, restaurants, tie-ups but only stay for the day.

Wow .... you had me at 1100 Hp stock

Most of those large center consoles have a cabin down below with air conditioning, television, head/shower, small galley, dinette & sleeping area or 2. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own.

Our lake is a very small lake, about 1800 acres, and in NW Oklahoma the wind blows, always! but on the handful of days a year that it is calm, the jet boats show up, almost like a group text goes out. Well yesterday was one of those days, we were beached on a sandbar point with the grands swimming just off shore, and the jets were flying by way too close for my comfort, and so loud we couldnt even talk to each other. So after the kids left, I spent about an hour just floating off shore, and when the jets were lining up to make a run, I did a few doughnuts, the ol sea ray puts out a pretty good wake. Kinda fun seeing the jets have to slow down, and get their teeth jarred as they went past. Am I a bad man??
