    Boat Insurance?

I got a quote from NBOA also and about $250 less than BoatUS but, no line item for "pollution spill liability" That's a big ticket item. Haven't talked to them about it yet but intend to. However I got another quote from Gallagher Charter Lakes - 350 less than Boat US and apples to apples...

great lakes boat top. Not impressed.

I have a '98 290 and I've purchased several pieces from Great Lakes. Never had an issue myself but I will say the weather was warm when I installed everything. I got all 3 top pieces and the support pole for the aft bimini. On a side note, I thought '98 was the first year of the forward arch...

Alpha ONe Gen 2 bellows and boot repair

Never used anything from GLM so I can't give any opinion on them specifically. I used to rely heavily on aftermarket parts while in the car repair business. I no longer do it for a living but, when I service stuff these days I tend to be picky about what parts I use. Quality has really gone down...

    Your Opinions Please.........

He's towing 8 miles 1 way occasionally. I have my doubts he'll need 17K worth of repairs for that little bit!

    Your Opinions Please.........

Money well spent on "on my behalf". Wish I could help you spend it. Like your signature line says "there is no greater time spent than messing about on a boat" (or something like that). Enjoy it.

    Your Opinions Please.........

This is a third vehicle? Maybe I'm missing something but your going to buy another vehicle to pull a dink around occasionally because the "looks" of a hitch on the car is objectionable? The purchase price, insurance, maintenance, extra repairs needed on a vehicle that sits (yes they do suffer...

Hey, will Snap-On warrant that if it breaks?

    trim tab trouble...

Don't know if you solved your problem yet but the drop fins helped my 29' Sundancer. Also this boat is heavy and will drop off plane quickly rendering the tabs useless. The drop fins were easy to install.

    1999 290 dancer

I currently have a 1998 Sundancer with 5.0L's. A little slow out of the hole but not bad. It is noticeably longer with 4 people on board. Runs best around 3400 RPM's and will fall out of the water around 3000. Good speed for a relatively heavy boat - about 22 to 24 MPH on average. I've never...

Boat Purchase - Is my reasoning flawed?

 It's never easy but with the track record he has on finances, if he sticks to those principals, he'll do fine.

Boat Purchase - Is my reasoning flawed?

Wow, how spoiled are we in this country? It's a BOAT! A complete luxury. It should be fun and relaxing. I think your trying to gather opinions of others to try and make a decision. That's good, that's part of what these forums are for but, in the end you 2 have to live together. It sounds as...

    Thanks, that's a big help.

    Base timing check

Thanks Boat Tech. I thought a paper clip would do the trick. :smt001 It was the most valuable tool in the shop when OBD I GM's came in for Ck. engine lights. We had plenty of scanners but it was usually quicker to get to a paper clip. Do you know the wire colors for terminals A and B assuming...

    Base timing check

Okay, I've done a search on several of these forums and tried the internet for this information. I'm a bit confused still. I don't have a mercruiser service manual and I'm using a SELOC manual. I'm trying to determine how to check base timing on my engines. I have a 1998 290 Sundancer with 5.0L...

    Raymarine C-80

I've had Garmin units in the past and I have to say I liked them. The Raymarine is great too, seems more technically oriented which can try your patience in rough seas with old eyes trying to see a small screen that gets smaller every year. How does that happen? I have found Raymarine is...

    Little Queenstown Creek

Is anyone familiar with the entrance to Little Queenstown Creek off of the Chester River? It looks like a nice place to anchor back there but the entrance looks tight- depth wise the charts show a narrow channel to get it. Is it a nice spot for overnight anchorage? Any place to water the dog in...

"The Cut" - New construction warning... Almost found out the hard way....

And who said drinking was bad for your health? Like you said if it hadn't been for the rum, your story might have ended differently. Glad it worked out okay. I'm on the eastern shore for the summer and there's been alot of dredgeing going on off of Pooles Island too. I haven't checked but were...

    Raymarine C-80

Brewster16, Did you ever figure out how to make the route line more visible? I've tried all the colors and I still have trouble seeing the line. It goes to a dashed line from your position to the next waypoint and I find this really hard to see. I did find if I decluter the chart it's easy to...
