    Rear Engine mount question

My new transom assembly came with rubber over where the rear engine mounts bolt in (see photo). I can't find any references to this rubber, and it seems to be more than just a protective cover. Does anyone know what it is? Should I just take it off?

Raw Water Pickup (Through Hull and Outdrive)

Bravo III stainless steel prop cracks
