Any one with a 2003 - 2008 340 have an opinion on storing fenders on the bow? I am really looking to hear if they hamper your view while docking. I would rather not have them visible at all but the stern locker really lacks adequate space to hold them. If anyone has any other ideas on where to store them I am all ears.

Brett

I can easily store 4 fenders (stacked two on the bottom and two on top) in the starboard corner of the transom- with room for 2 more if needed. We have our slip rigged with 6 small fenders, tied horizontally to the sides, that allow us to untie and go. The 4 fenders we have in the transom don't get pulled out until we intend to use them, so for us it's not too much of a pain. For the way we use our fenders I would not want them out on the bow all the time.

I'm the same with you guys. On my 05 340 they are in the stern locker on the stb. side. I have to get on my knees to remove them but I think the guys with their fenders on the hand rails on the bow are BUTT ugly.

Butt ugly?

On my 320, I can fit 6 in the transom - 4 of which are stuffed in the starboard corner. They are all 8" or 8.5" diameter fenders can't remember. I know Regal has a net in the anchor locker so fenders can sit in the anchor locker above the rode. Would something like that work?

thanks for all of the feedback. i know that there is room far to the starboard in the stern locker but you really have to get neck deep in that thing to get them out. have a safe season everyone

Depends on how often you use fenders. I tie one on each side of the bow. I tie them horizontally between two upright stanchions of the bow rail. This way I just untie one end when ready to use them. I do this most often if I plan on going through the lock. If I do not plan on going through the lock or tieing up at an unknown location then I store mine in the transom locker.

Brett,
For the last two years I had my 10" fenders on the bow in fender holders. It does block the view when sitting down but I can also say it's nice having them on the bow when needed in a hurry. This year I am trying to find a better location. I was thinking about the large storage area underneath the bed in the forward compartment. If not hopefully one or two in the floor storage in the galley. As for the look of the fenders on the bow, I personally think if it's done right it looks fine but everyone has their opinions.

Brett,

We raft-up a lot and bring Sue's kayak out on the swim platform. Early last season we stored them in the transom locker, and working around the kayak was a PITA when rigging for the raft-up. We installed fender holders on the bow rail and it was a great improvement. It gave me more room in the transom locker for cleaning supplies as well. I back in my slip, so they don't affect my vision there, and they do not bother me when docking.

As to whether they "look good" on the bow in holders...opinions are like _____ everybody has one - well you know what I mean! Most of the cruisers on my dock have them in bow holders.

If you don't use them much, keep them in the locker. If you do use them, they are very convenient on the bow.

Mine are also mounted on the bow and I have not had any problems with them blocking my view. As to overall appearance, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

We raft up every day so we use ours alot. I tied mine up horizontally also with bungie cords. I had 4 on the bow and they did block some view, granted its a 280. I had some holders made out of sunbrella this winter and they will also store horizontally. Each holder will hold one fender. They velcro on the rail. Kind of like a pillow case for the fenders.

I can see fine. As a matter of fact, two of them are "clear" fenders.

I think for all you express boat guys, clear fenders may just be the answer! Don't steal my idea!

All,of my fenders fit into my transom locker along with a drop cord, two shore power cords, 50' water hose and two boat hooks. I still have room for at least a bushel of steamed crabs and two cases of beer. (Miller Lite)

I have a 2000 340 DA. I keep my fenders mounted on the bow. I've never felt they blocked my view. I mounted them just aft of the running lights, and put them in socks that match the canvas. I like the way they look.

I only use them for rafting (not needed at the dock). They are easy to get to (and to put away). Besides, there is so much other stuff to keep under the seats and in the lockers...
