My 04 340 has 8.1's. Pretty common for those boats.

He's wondering about the 8.1 HO (high output) which has around 420 hp instead of the standard 8.1 which cranks out 370 hp. I thought I saw some magazine boat reviews where the HO was offered for the I/O configuration but I'm not certain.
My friend had a 2005 340DA with the HO 8.1 engines. It was a beast. Most 340DA of that generation I have seen have the regular 8.1S or 8.1 Horizon engines. It's not shown as an orderable option on the spec sheet for that year but he had them and they were original.
