OMC sterndrive
I have a 1976 OMC 190 hp stern drive. Ready to go except I can't find the engine block, water drain petcock valves at any of the local parts stores. I bought and replaced the manifold valves but the part numbers are the same as the engine block but they are slightly larger. Any suggestions??

Have you looked at your local plumbing store (Lowes, Home Depot, etc.)? Most of them are standard pipe threads. If you can't find the valves, just use a plug for now. Welcome to CSR!

Thanks, I will try that! Appreciate the help and the welcome. Really excited about getting MY new (old) boat out!

I would recommend using brass fittings/plugs, they are softer than what they go into, so as not to damage threads......

I tried a couple brass plugs in the engine block and I am having a hard time getting the threads to grab. Any more ideas? It may be my impatience I don't mean to sound disrespectful. (After reading the post.. I thought "any more ideas" could be taken the wrong way.)

You may want to post in the classics section instead of classifieds section,i think there is a wealth of knowledge available there on your situation.

You're right, sorry wasn't paying attention to entire section title, thank you.

Just a guess, but i would think they are the same size as on mercruiser block. You may need to run a tap through the holes to
clean up the threads.

I went to Auto Zone and picked up the brass ball valve type. They work well and are common sizes. If you can't get the threads to take then try tapping them but be gentle. A pipe tap only needs to go in enough to except the fitting thread. It's not like a straight tap that you screw all the way through the length of the tap. They should be SAE thread size not metric. I believe mine were 3/8th inch but not sure.
