1983 Sea Ray 270..I killed it...waaah

Sounds like a plan. See if they can give you a diagram of what they fix and the corrections they make. It should not be to much to ask. Maybe print out the wiring diagram from the manual and have them mark it up as to what is new and what is old.

Update : I took the boat over to the local marine mechanic who was totally confused with the wiring issues. I didn't feel quite so dumb after he was stumped too.
So I hauled it to Marine Tech Concepts in Port Clinton Oh and they didn't think it was going to be a problem at all. They are starting on it this morning and should be hearing from them this afternoon. In the meantime, teak laying in garage waiting for me.
Thanks for all the help with this and will update again when I know....

BTW I still love that boat. Its' starting to feel like a B.O.A.T. now. Break Out Another Thousand.

I admire your determination....but I would be thinking that if the wiring is this much of a hack job, what about the rest of the boat? Are you going to spend $$$ to get the wiring corrected then have blown engines, blown generator, bad A/C unit, rotten transom? You didn't ask for opinions, but I'd cut and run if it was me.

I'd also say that the previous owner is pulling your leg. There's no way he used that boat for 12 years and didn't experience any electrical issues with wiring like that.

Thats what the previous owner did, cut and run...LOL:smt021
Smarter than me, huh?

I think the engine/starting/acc wiring is going to be the worst of it...not ready to part it out yet.....she sounds great running...and drives engaged fine in forward and reverse....nice and smooth...but your point is well taken.... I know theres a line where things become cost and time prohibitive. B.O.A.T. ( Break Out Another Thousand )

I still have much faith in the old girl at this point. Hull and transom look to be in very good condition to me and I haven't found a soft spot yet anywhere on the boat. Windows, hatches, bow rails etc are all tight,no leaks or sponginess and the teak and interior inside the cabin is like absolutely perfect condition. No mold in the monkey fur, cushions, upholstery ,no weird musty smells etc.

I did get the AC house electrical part working again though, dead short in the house battery. Two new batteries fixed that side of the problem.

The guys at Tech Concepts are going to run an entire DC electrical check on the boat and see where we are then. They have a certified marine electrician thats working on it, so we should be able to sort all the VHF,GPS, stereo and ignition stuff out.

In the meantime, I am having great fun and a super learning experience with it. It's definitely NOT boring...I still love my old bomber boat.
