I have attached a picture of a tube with rubber stopper that comes out of the transom just above the drive shaft in engine compartment. The original outdrive was the Alpha I. The previous owner put on a stern drive by Engineering (replacement to the Alpha I) Does not have a gear oil reservoir for the leg.I do not know what this pictured part is for. Do you? Did the original Alpha I have a gear lube reservoir for outdrive?
Thanks for any feedback

That looks like the water feed from the lower unit water pump to the engine (read main engine water intake)! Did the PO install some kind of engine driven water pump to cool the engines? (hope so). On my boat, there is a molded hose that runs from that fitting to the oil cooler, then on to thermotsat housing. Got any pics of the thermostat housing area?

That looks to me like the tube from the outdrive pump.
It usually has a hose connected going to the engine water circulating pump.
That's how it is on my alpha I

Thanks, resolved my question. The stern drive water pump is disconnected as there was a belt driven water pump installed.
Picture of vessel attached.
Thanks
Gordon

I hope the impeller is removed from the outdrive, as it will always be pushing water up to that cap. If it springs a leak it could swamp your boat.
