I have been searching high and low for the wiring diagrams for my boat. Mainly the DC circuit due to a grounding problem. Anyone have a lead on where it might be found? I have searched the Sea Ray website and google all the options I can think of.

There's some information in the manual (which if you don't have it, can be downloaded from SR's site), but often times some of the much older boat manuals won't have full-on wiring schematics. But there might be enough information there for what you're after, I'm not sure. Baring that, you could try contacting Sea Ray and asking them as they would be the only other source. But I don't know if they'll have it, either.

But as far as chasing grounds, the first place to start is at the batteries - removing, cleaning, reinstalling - and then just follow the cables and repeat. Keep in mind that corrosion can creep it's way underneath the sheathing. If these are original cables, they don't owe anyone anything - they've done their job for 25 years in a harsh environment. After taking care of your main grounds, then look at bus bars - could be in the bilge, under the dash, behind the MDP - or all three. Repeat the removal and cleaning procedure. After that, then attack the individual system that's giving you problems. I also remember (vaguely) something about a grounding plate on the bottom of the hull - some kind of optional electronics grounding setup?

In the 90's, Sea Ray tended to make changes frequently to improve the boats. Those typically involved wiring, so the wiring diagrams were not included in the owner's manual to save republishing the complete manual every year. Instead, the factories published a "Dealer Service Manual" for each model year that contained changes made from the prior year's models. This manual was published by manufacturing plant, not by model. For example, I have the one covering my 450DA and it also has information for the other models produced at Palm Coast in 1996/1997. It went to each dealer's service department. Your best hope of getting the complete wiring diagram, therefore, is going to be to ask your local dealer for a copy of it. Given the history of dealer changes in this area, I suspect you will have some difficulty even finding someone to talk to about getting one.

Sorry, I know this isn't much help, but it is what it is..............

Ah, the books! Books, books and more books. Forgot all about those things - good point, Frank. We've got shelves upon shelves of large binders that haven't been touched in years. And then there's the "fish"....

So Dennis, are you saying I need to plan a trip to PA so I can take a look?

Better bring your dust brush if you do... I'm sure there's a few inches of dust on them! :smt001
