Hi Guys,

Haven't posted in awhile because the boat has ben running great for seasons but boat life always catches up to you.

Here is what is happening and any advice and ideas would be appreciated.

Opened the boat up this year, it had been winterized and shrink wrapped for our Maine winter. My mechanic comes to the house and we got everything ready but she would not fire. We determined that we were not getting much gas at all in the carb so my mechanic guessed maybe the carb was junked up and needed a clean and rebuild.

He took the carb to his shop, took it apart, cleaned and rebuilt. He showed me pictures of the inside that was gummed up with almost a jelly substance. There was also corrosion that needed cleaning. Hard cleaning he said. He said that gummyness often happens because of the crap gas the stations on the lake carry with additives and who knows what.

Anyway, he came back a week later, installed the carb and we fired right up. Ran in the driveway for a good half hour and the engine was smooth and looking great. ( BTW, engine is a 8 Cylinder 190 Horse Mercruiser with 320 hours on it ). He left and my friend and I put my boat in the water, wouldn't start. Almost sounded flooded.

So I brought the boat home and waited until the following Friday to tackle the issue. I got geared up with tools and a will to fix it but sure enough, the boat fired right up with no priming. Ran like a dream.

2 days later i started the boat a few times in the driveway to double check, no issues. Later that day put it in the water, fired up, ran it for 15 mins and docked it.

Now come yesterday and I went down to the dock at 8am, fired right up and ran for 15 minutes while i cleaned up. Came back down the with family approx 2 hours later and she wouldn't start. Again, almost sounded flooded and it wouldn't catch a spark and fire.

We defaulted to neighbor's p[arty boat for 4-5 hours. Came back to the dock. Walked to the boat. Turned the key and she started right up!!

I am wondering if now the rebuilt carb is somehow letting in too much gas? Could the fuel pump be an issue? ( Doesnt seem to be bc it runs great when it is running ) How come it runs and then after siting for a few hours won't start but a few hours after that it fires right up.

Any thought?

Thanks in advance
