1999 215EC top speed question

My 215 was EFI, but that was only 20HP more than your 220HP/carb'd engine. I was easily in the mid-40's (it's been a while - can't recall the exact number).

I have heard that 4 blade props hurt your top end speed, any truth to that?
In post #5, you said you got about the same top end with both props.

Still gotta clean the hull - it's a variable - it could be worse than you think.

You said you trim it properly... are you trimming up till just before the prop ventilates? You said you can get 4,800RPM, so you probably are. But worthwhile to ask.

If it's not a dirty hull issue and not user error (trimming), then it's either an old fuel issue or a mechanical issue. For example, a dead cylinder - this could be as simple as a plug wire that's not seated properly or cap/rotor/wires/plugs need changing.

A friend just gave me a 14-3/4" X 17 stainless rebel prop, do you think this work well for my 1999 215EC? Brand new

John, respectfully, please read back through your thread. We already talked about this and, again, the prop is NOT the issue.

I understand what you are saying this was just something that was offered to me and I was wondering what some thoughts were, I realize this is a seperate issue.

I have always favored SS props on all my past boats.

Gotcha. Well, there are positives and negatives to both styles... very generally, SS gives a little bite into the water but if you take a hit, you run more a possiblity of doing driveline or engine damage. Aluminum is the opposite. Now, in regards to the pitch, are up to speed to on what that means? You're dropping from a 19" to 17", so you'll get a better hole shot... but at WOT throttle you'll overrev the engine - so be careful with throttle and trim.

Yeah, that's kinda what I need, I don't have tabs yet and the boat needs help with the hole shot, usually have 4-5 people and gear on it. I almost never go past 4,000 RPM so top end isn't an issue. I mostly day boat, never really go on long trips. I am getting tabs next season, that should also help. Thanks

Tabs will help a lot at hole shots, balance and also waves. One of the best options on our boat and mine is similar to yours.
