I’ve found this site very helpful for all thing SeaRay and am now making my first post. If anyone can offer me some suggestions on working through this it’d be much appreciated.
Pulled the “classic” forgot the drain plug in my boat and flooded the engine compartment of our 2001’ 240SD. Thankfully we caught it early and made it back to the launch, trailered, installed plug, and started back out. Within ten minutes engin began to over heat. Did something get shorted? Raw water pump?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

How much water got into the bilge through the open drain plug?

How high did it come up?

Water was to the bottom of the battery/top of oil pan. The belt was throwing a lot of water around the engine compartment.

Doesn't sound like got up high enough to cause an overheat issue. When was last time had her out before this mishap? Was temp good then? Might be just as simple as things were still wet and belt was slipping on raw water pump pulley. Let it dry out real good and give another try. Also - figure a way to hook your plug to something you have visit before launching. I used to keep mine on the winch handle to the trailer. Also had a friend that did just as you twice - he found a plug that had a check valve in it. He kept this in the boat when not in the water just in case he forgot, again. He would put the regular plug in when launching as a rule, but this prevented another sinking.

Thank you for the DP advice Korkie those are great ideas. We were out three days before this happened and temps were normal. It also seemed to be fine when we brought boat back in to trailer and drain.
Bilge pump isn’t working right either. It was blowing the 7.5 amp fuse during “the incident”. Drained water and fuse doesn’t blow, but now bilge & light won’t stay on on control panel. Checking connections to BP today. They were completely submerged yesterday.

Seemed like the water pump pully was turning too and the belt wasn’t slipping.
I’ll check it again.

Really hoping it just needed to dry out. Could I be that lucky? Probably not.

Thanks,
Jon

Bingo!! Complete coincidence on the timing of this. Thank you everyone!

Impeller was in pieces.

Any ideas on how to back flash this before I put the housing on?

If you didn’t get all the pieces out pull the thermostat housing off and check in there. If pieces get stuck anywhere that’s where they’ll be.
