I just bought this boat and I'm planning to remove the current fish finder/gps. I hate the location and it's very outdated. The VHF is also original and although it works, I'm on a land locked lake with strong cell service everywhere. I'd like to have a flushmounted unit instead of some of the useless gauges I currently have. Just curious what others have done with this same dash layout.

Sorry about the picture, my friggin phone uploads it sideways and I can't figure out how to rotate it.

You're really only limited by your checkbook!

Simrad has some really slick 5" charplotters these days. Garmin doesn't go any smaller than 7".

Do have any surfaces to the left of this picture that are also available?

Unfortunately there isn't any useable space that I see. I'll take better pics today when we go to the lake. I also need to take some measurements.

In my dream panel I'd have all glass, but that's just not going to happen without having fiberglass work done...and we know this isn't the last boat.

I think a 5" chartplotter would be plenty for our uses.

I think I'm just going to remove the old FF/GPS, replace the small depth gauge and use my ipad on a suction cup mount.

I use the ipad for flying (foreflight) and I didn't even consider that it could be used in the boat.

Biggest drawback of the 280 (we had one for 13 years) is limited dash space. Being on a lake you need of the radio is limited for sure. I used a GPS that I was able to mount on the space forward of the throttle. I actually got one that was for a bass boat but it was not flush mount so it served our purpose.

That flat spot in front of the throttle is where I think the suction cup mount for the iPad would be perfect. I've been on this lake for 40 years so during the day I don't really need it. It would be helpful at night though.
