2001 340 Sundancer purchase decision....

Cliff, I can help you with handling twins if you want. I'm sure Jim will help out also. Just get ahold of me and Ill come running. Haha I have a slip at Midway marina and Knot Tide Down is there right now. Let me know.

thanks Mike. i might just take you up on your kind offer.

getting a little frustrated. the surveyor is very busy and we have not set a date for the survey yet. The engines and genny checked out good. the last piece of the puzzle is a relatively clean survey.

we are getting a little exited and anxious to get the purchase of the boat over ASAP.

but at the same time i do not want to rush things.

Had the boat survey today and it went well. Only a couple minor things found. Looks like we will close the deal next week.

i got some more reliable performance numbers today using the GPS app on my phone. At 4,000 rpms we were going around 27 mph. At WOT we hit around 4,900 rpms and we were going 31 mph. This is with the full camper canvas up. I don't know how much (if any) difference that could make in the WOT performance. The boat planed easily with two adults on board. While we had the boat on a lift for the hull inspection we found a piece of ski rope wrapped around the starboard prop shaft. That may have been the reason the WOT for the starboard engine was a hundred or so rpms less than the port engine WOT. A pleasant surprise was the bottom paint was still in relatively good condition for being 4 yrs old. No need to repaint for at least another year.

i felt pretty good about things when the surveyor told me 'if you don't buy this boat I am'.....he thought the boat was in excellent condition for its age.

thanks to the group for all your input.

Excellent Cliff... now you need to get her ready for the Xmas boat parade at PYC.

.

Won't be at PYC much longer. When we close I plan to move the boat to The Boat Rack Marina. They had one wet slip left on 'C' dock so that looks like our new home.

by the way, there is Sea Ray 380 at PYC docked near our boat with the name 'Wine Down'. Was that one of your previous boats?

No I had nothing that big. Seems the name "Wine Down" wasn't as unique as my wife and I thought.

You can still participate in the parade. It is open to all. Check the PYC website.

It's official. We are the proud new owner of a 2001 340 DA. Can't wait to start enjoying her.

Congrats but we're gonna need pics......and put a broom in the pic so we know ya just didn't download the pics of the interwebs

Congrats on the new ride. The 340 is awesome and the wife and I love ours. Its is a very easy bout to learn. Good luck.

That's exciting news! I'm sure you will have a lot of good times on your new boat. Congratulations Cliff.

Congratulations! Excellent choice in vessel....

Thanks for all the well wishes. It has been long process with several disappointments along the way but in the end we were able to get a lot more boat than we thought we could and I don't think I could have found one this age in much better condition. I was initially concerned about the performance of the 6.2 engines but I no longer have any reservations about that. Yesterday I was cruising on plane at 3,800 rpms at 25 mph and still had plenty of throttle left.

i was able to move the boat from the PO's marina to my marina and dock it without incident. I don't mind admitting there was some serious 'puckering' going on during the move but I was also loving every minute of it. All of the owner's manuals came with the boat so I have some serious 'light reading' to do. But reading manuals is my favorite form of 'pleasure reading'.

Congratulations!. I recommend you read the 340 owners thread start to finish. Since the 1995 to 1999 330's are also similar to the 340 you have, the 330 owners thread would also be useful to read. You will lear more from that than than the manuals. Its shocking how "light" boat manuals are.
