Hey there,

I just bought a 2001 searay 280 sundancer and I’m trying to test out the system.

I only have 1 CD atm but no matter which slot I put it in, the disc doesn’t load.

When I push and hold it in I can hear it try and grab it but nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong? Or does it have to have all 6 discs to load?

Soooo outdated technology. Its a great time to update to better/newer tech. And you can use the space that the old changer was in for some storage.

Upgrading the 280 radio is an easy diy. The mounting facia board just screws into the electrical cabinet. As I recall you will have to drop the main breaker board (after having shut down batteries and shore power). The panel has to come down as there is a perforated metal strap connected to the back of the radio. I replaced the entire mounting board because the cabinet door wouldn’t close. A table saw is nice to cut the angled long edges, but you could do it with a circular saw. I bought one of the name brand car stereo with Bluetooth and ran music from an iPad through it using the iPad as the remote and volume control. The amplifier located behind the mirrored closet in the mid berth (aka cave) will accept the output from a stereo.

After spending big bucks on a Fusion for the present boat and having gone through two units due to warranty defects I definitely would not recommend them.

I am but I can’t get it done until it’s out of the water in a couple weeks.

Any idea why it won’t play a CD? Does it need all 6 in?

thanks, I’ll be upgrading in a few weeks.

In the meantime I just want to see how I can get it to play a CD. Do I need all 6 in?

No, but you do need the cd holder. Do you have one?
Yes, I’m putting the disc in correctly and I tried every single slot and it won’t take it.

when you put the holder in you have to even push it in and hold it to close the door.

you’ve done about everything you can do. It’s pretty simple. I can’t remember if there is a display on the head unit. There is a cd slot on the head unit. I can’t recall if the presence of the remote player cancels the head unit’s CD operating ability, but you might try that as well. I suppose a bad disc might be rejected from the loading process. In any event I think you may have reached the point where the CD player is simply DOA.
