2002 34 sundancer

8.1's
Hello all,
I am going to be purchasing a 2002 34 sundancer and just would like any ones input on what to look for. The boat is in like new condition with 800 hours.
Finally selling my 1986 34 express which served me well for 22 years but it's time.
Thanks all.

Moisture in the deck is the big one. Under the windshield, around the hatches, and around the windless.

I had a 99 340 for three years. Great boat! As mentioned above it can be a challenge to find 330/340's of this vintage that aren't wet. Make sure your survey covers all the usual wet spots.

You're going to like that 340 if it works out. Great boat...

Great Boat....get a good survey....mine was dry so no issues. 6.2s run great, I have put 250 hours on mine and just hit 800. Hopefully it's been well maintained, oil changes, in engine and transmissions. The ZF hursts if it has V-drives are pretty bullet proof but they need regular oil changes and filters. The Progress 1 windless parts for the most part are unavailable, the finger and spring are the ones that cause issues. P2 marine has an aftermarket finger an spring that seems to work. A good surveyor will pull the boat, check the props and running gear, and give you a full report and detailed list of equipment. Some will do sea trials, compression checks and oil analysis. The more things you cover the less surprises you get. Make sure everything works and functions or have the owner pay for repairs. as you know Boat stands for "Break out another thousand"....Good luck... I have many of the shrive manuals for that year that I would share

I had a heat exchanger go on me this year, about 2k to replace it... Check the antifreeze before and after the boat engines cool... The temps should run just over 170 deg F. Make sure you know if you have to change the exhaust manifolds, risers, and elbows.. Find out when the last time the water pumps where changed. The Cool Fuel system and fuel pump will probably need to be changed. Check the rudder packing for leaks too... I had to change my dripless seals. When I did I added cross over cooling. Check if they were changed... 340's are good boats.. What engines are you getting? I would not buy a 340 with outdrives or 6.2 engines...

Thank you all for your input/advice. It has the 8.1's engines. I'll be sure to get a detailed survey on the above items

I'm getting a 95 370 sundancer. Is it the same for that boat? (as far as problem wet spots) Survey is happening in probably 10 days. 8.1 engines but sitting for 10 years with maybe 15 hours put on them each year. I'm assuming risers/manifold may need changed. ??

Are you sure those are 8.1's? I had a 2000 340DA and 8.1's were not available in a 340DA until a few years later.

Yeah, the previous owner put them in around 2010 but barely used the boat over 10 years. So now I'm wondering what could be damaged from salt water in that time.

I know from personal experience the 330/340's had a heck of a time staying dry. From what I've read around here it's not unique to the 340 and seems to be a mid/late 90's theme for Sea Ray. I slip next to a 99 400 that has a wet foredeck at the windshield. My 97 is dry, however.

The good news is that a wet deck will be easy to find for a good surveyor. The bad news is that the proper repair is quite spendy...
