Hello Folks,

I previously posted about my issues with my Sonar on the Garmin 2006C and have moved on now to a Lowrance HDS7 as a replacement. But after the install (we temp mounted the transducer to allow for movement), I have run into an issue. The sonar information goes wonky when in water deeper than 1300ft or so, I tried setting it to 300ft but it was still virtually useless. I believe this would be due to the transducer placement which is being done as "through hull". The lowrance install info indicated that the included transom mount transducer is capable of being installed into the boat as a through hull install.

Anyway, just thought I would ask if anyone has any ideas of placement on this boat. I have the inboards/vdrives. We put it close to the other transducers but I will play around with location tomorrow... but any ideas are more than welcome.

Cheers

Purp

This thread is almost a year old but thought I would add to it for the interested.

For those of you with transducer issues: I mounted the lowrance transducer as a shoot thru hull and was getting a fairly reliable 950ft of water. The fish moved shallow so it was not much of an issue for the rest of the year. This year at the start of the season (two weeks ago say) I added the HDS8, radio, broadband radar and the networking which also gave me tech support for the transducer. We spliced onto the current thru hull garmin transducer which has been ok, it was a clearer signal but it was not able to give me more than 1100ft of signal before crapping itself. It has become better which makes me think it might of been ok after the boat cleaning but if it is coming out a new transducer will be a mere fraction of the already spent cost so I am putting in a new one.

I have still been having issues with the transducer in deep water and now have the boat coming out in a few days so I will be able to post some success I think. I will be replacing the current thru hull transducer with a new one, likely a 1kw but we will see. The shop assures me that a 1kw with the Lowrance HDS systems is overkill even in 1500ft of water but we will see. The package is now fully Lowrance with an HDS7, HDS8 networked with a BR24 radar and a Standard Horizon AIS radio. (2500 I think without looking for the manual)
