Boat Info
2005 Sea Ray 260 Sundancer
Engines
Mercruiser 350 Mag with Bravo III
I am having an issue where i can smell fuel and occasionally see some minor amount in the bilge only immediately after filling the take to the top. boat is wet slipped in Newport Harbour and i really dont want to pull it out but i know any fuel issues are a real safety issue.

I have a feeling it is the sending unit that is leaking as this only happens when the tank is just filled and then it goes away after a couple of gallons are used

I cannot figure out how to access the unit. I went into the bilge and followed the fuel lines through the filter and all the way to the fuel rails and everything is dry and tight

How can i access the sending unit to tighten the bolts or maybe replace the gasket if i see this is the issue. This is a 2005 260 Sundancer

Many thanks

It's probably best if you keep just your original thread on this, rather than starting a new one.

I am trying to find the access panel for the sending unit, that is model specific and i thought i would have a chance of getting that here as i am sure most people do not regularly go into the maintenance forum

I called the dealer even and they are no help

On the 280DA the fuel sender is located underneath the aft mattress under an access panel.

However, based off your symptoms, I would also consider that the lines that run from the fill neck to the tank could also be leaking.

I put that info in your other thread

i drove the boat about 15 minutes from the gas dock to my slip. Wouldnt those hoses be empy by then or do they hold more than a quarter gallon (i was burning 1 gal/hr for 15 minutes)

You lived so with that I would have you post next of kin info here just in case.
Vapor is more explosive than raw gas.
Find the issue or you may end up burned, dis-figured or even dead

It was the sending unit gasket. Had it replaced by a marine mechanic and all is well

many thanks!!!!
