2005 weekender 215 Ran out of gas

I ran out of gas and now I do not have gas to the 5.0 mercruiser carb.
The motor starts when I add gas to the carb but still no gas from the line.
What should I do first?

Did the tank actually run out of gas or did the fuel pump quit and it won’t pump any fuel?
 
And if you really did run out - it takes a long time of cranking to suck fuel through all the lines, through the filters, and into the bowl. Crank 15 seconds at a time and wait 30 seconds - so you dont overheat the starter. You may have to do thay 20-30 times. The other option (my pref after Ive swapped fuel pumps and installed new filters) is to disconnect the fuel line at the carb, hook up a mityvac manual vacuum pump - and suck the gas through the system. Saves a bit of wear and tear on everything - and you know your getting fuel to the carb. Getting the vac tube to fit over/against the fuel line is a bit challenging though. Could also do the old school siphon if you dont have / dont wanna buy the mityvac. Pull 16oz or so of fuel out - ensuring you’ve got good flow and most (if not all) of the air out as well. Do not use a shop vac (or similar) - it atomizes the fuel vapor which becomes explosive.

Yeah you're just going to have to crank to prime it but definitely let the starter cool and the batteries are cool Don't let anything get too hot You should be fine
 
Start by filling the filter prior to installing. That should run the engine long enough to prime. Use the upmost of care obviously.
 
First season with my weekender 215 was fun and costly. Second time out on Shinnecock Bay the alarm sounded and I shut the motor down. Limped back to the mooring and SeaTow took it to the marina. Oil pan cracked! Out came the motor and figured to replace the risers, they were original and any other parts that looked bad. Huge bill. Back in the water and the first ride out, I thought I ran out of gas. Seatow back to the marina- fuel pump (original) was replaced . The remainder of the season went well.
I can only hope that 2024 will be more enjoyment on the Bay and less cash to the marina!

How does an oil pan made out of stamped steel crack?
 
Cracked or rusted through is the question here I think.

That's a lot for a 2005 riser/ elbow. I would hate to see a bad one
