Just installed a new water heater in my boat and there was no check valve on the fresh water lines coming in or going out. I believe there is suppose to be one but I'm checking to see. And if it should be on the inlet side so the hot water won't work its way back to the rest of the water. Also I noticed when taking everything apart there was no water filter on the water pump any recommendations on what kind of filter to put there?

On our 02 there wasn’t a check valve. There is no “filter” element just a screen. They do tend to get scummy if you don’t use the pump system. We went a season one year where the boat sat in its slip for most of the season and by fall the screen was plugged solid.

Look in your parts manual and you may get a vendor name. Although the 280 is long out of production common parts like the water system are still supported by Sea Ray. You may be able to get a replacement from a dealer.

I wouldn't worry about the check valve. There's such little water in the cold lines that IF the cold lines (which are never really "cold" given the location of the tank) got hot, they would turn back cold again very quickly with water use. Spend your money elsewhere - I can say that I never found the need for it.

Like Henry said, use that water to keep it from going rank - often, it gets worse in the HWH. A capfull or two of bleach added the holding tank works really well. But the best way is to use it up. And pull the screen every month and check/clean as needed.

Hello Dennis!
Maybe you can help with a problem I had last year?

After I reconnected my hot water tank during spring commissioning, I had hot water from every faucet, hot and cold side.

Thoughts?
