I have the 5kw generator that was repaired last year with a new control module, old one got fried. I ran it every weekend for 20 mins at the dock, as the mech suggested, it ran fine.winterized it in the fall. After launching and slipping the boat I started the generator and it started right up great, good flow etc. After 5 -6 mins or less it sounded like it ran out of fuel and does not restart.
The mechanic said purge the fuel the system. Well that all well and good if you know how!
I have some basic questions if anyone can chime in.
Whats involved with purging, some basic steps would be good.
How do access the carburetor, do I have to remove the large black plastic shroud on the starboard side of Gen? It has about 10 small screws holding it I think.

Try this. Un olug the power wire going to the fuel pump. Fuel pump is located just the the right of the oil dip stick (mine is yellow). Had same issue and it was just that connection was poor. Just unplugging and re plugging in will usually tell if that is the issue. If so, the connector needs to be replaced or at least cleaned up and squeezed so it is tighter. Replaced is the best. Other way to test if getting fuel is to remove the fuel line off the carborator, place it in a can, crank the motor over and see if you get fuel consistantly. No fuel, test for power at the pump positive connection. Power at the connection, no fuel flow - replace pump.
There are other things that will cause it to stop as well. Oil level/pressure, temperature, raw water flow (causes temp overheat). These are some things to start with.
